    Hi
After a few tough months of isolation and frequent profound vertigo and vomiting, I met with an ENT Professor, as a private paying patient last night who feels I have Menieres Disease.

My vertigo, I hate calling my dizziness vertigo! It is much more than feeling dizzy, when it strikes I am incapacitated, literally on the floor and cannot move, and can last for hours...

He is currently arranging an urgent MRI scan, repeat hearing tests (last tested 2 years ago) I now wear 2 hearing aids as my hearing has deteriorated significantly over the last couple of years, and an appointment in the Balance Clinic for further tests......

For me this condition came out of the blue, and is a terrible condition, I now not able to drive a car, currently absent from work and uncertain of what the future holds.......my plan whilst waiting for further clinical investigations is as follows:

    1) Serc 32mg TDS
    2) No salt in diet
    3) No caffine
    4) No alcohol
    5) plenty of exercise
Sorry for such a glum first post :-\
I have maintained a diary of my symptoms since onset at menieresandi.blogspot.co.uk
    Warm regards and dizziness

Dizziness and vertigo are 2 different things. and yes vertigo is a living horror!

I would suggest trying to get a doctor to prescribe an antiviral. Many of us get symptom relief from them. As for me after having Meniere's since I am 13 years old, I am vertigo free for going on 3 years due to taking an antiviral.

Please check our forums database for studies supporting a viral cause for MM. Antivirals do not help everyone but they help many.

Also as far as serc goes there are studies that suggest high doses for MM
    here is that study

High-dosage betahistine dihydrochloride between 288 and 480 mg/day in patients with severe Menière's disease: a case series.

Sorry to hear your suffering so bad, I was
Wondering you said you are newly diagnosed
And have hearing aids for 2 years,
Did you have vertigo in the past or just
Hearing loss over time ? Do you have flucuating
Hearing and tinitus as well? Hope you feel
    Better

    Hi Lisa,
I noticed a reduction in my hearing which started around 2 years ago, which had been deteriorating slowly, I had no vertigo until March this year. Before I have an attack I notice my hearing reduces massively and the tinnitus increases. The worst part of this horrible condition for me is how quick they occur and with little warning (for me) and how incapacitated they make me. During an attack I cannot move and I have profound vomiting, which is embarrassing when it happens away from the sanctuary of the home.......and now not able to drive or go to work.......hoping my ENT consultant is able to help

Sorry to hear that, my doc told me this
Disease is different for each person
I was surprised to see your only
Symptom was a decline in your hearing
And then to such an extreme. My main symptom
Is flucuating hearing in one ear as well
Scarey to not know where this disease
Could be taking you. I hope you feel better
Soon. Did steriods ever work for you? They
    Helpe tremendously but don't want
To stay on them feel horrible when
On them and worse getting off

    Hey, Davet

You mentioned you were having further tests done at a Balance Clinic, does this include an appointment with a neurotologist? If not I would recommend consulting both, so they may work in conjunction to help diagnose & treat your symptoms.

    Welcome to the forum, btw.

In addition to antivirals as Vicki mentioned, many here have also found the John of Ohio Regimen beneficial. Would it be possible to adopt this regimen while you're waiting for said results?
