Hello all At my last visit to my ENT he said that other older patients of his has reported to him that as they got older the NOISE or tinnitus has decreased in their ears. Has anyone experienced this after having many years of ringing? I am two years into this and there has not been much improvement in the noise level although a few trips to the Acupuncturist did tone it down a little. Thank you all for sharing your knowledge and experiences, it has helped me tons. My ENT did refuse to start me on antiviral but no reason except he did not feel it would help. He also said there was not a lot of research going on for Menieres anymore but lots going on in the surgical area to help restore some of the hearing.
Shill, you should find another dr. In my opinion, the question is not whether HE thinks it will help but more importantly could it hurt? Answer to that is no. There are no significant health impacts in a negative way to at least TRY the a/v. It totally frustrates me to no end that the same doctors who won't try things because it "won't work" are the same ones that have nothing to offer you either.
I agree with nicgmer, he is clueless to the relief antivirals gives many of us, plus he has no proof it doesn't work, show him the publications supporting a viral cause, if he stays stuck in his narrow mind you should find another doctor.
I agree with Vicki and nicmger, the noise in my ears has gotten worse since I got older! Just started acyclovir about 3 weeks ago and started JOH regime, was very discouraged at first even though I knew it takes time to work, and today the noise in my ear was a whole lot less! and I could hear without my hearing aides for part of the day! The noise has increased some tonight, but I just worked a 10 hour shift and the tinnitus does seem to worsen when I get tired, but it didn't start until about an hour ago which is good.
Just curious did the antivirals help even After years of damage from mm? It's wonderful That so many have found an answer in Antivirals .
I was about two years into full active meniere's before I started the a/v. It very quickly (within 2 months) reduced/eliminated the ear pressure - that was extreme and 24/7; reduced the ringing sound and so far 16 months later no vertigo. I haven't been to the dr recently to get confirm if my hearing had improved, it had not at the 3 mon and 6 mon mark - but the longer the disease has been active reduces the possibility of hearing recovery I believe. But I can wear a hearing aid. No/minimal ear pressure, no ringing and vertigo...success in my book.
I think I am proof antivirals can work after years of having MM. I have MM for 50 years now. when I started antivirals I had MM for 48 years. Although I do not have hearing loss due to MM, my loss is midtones which is not from any illness, I am told. I have no ear pressure/vertigo/ dizziness/I do have mild tinnitus which is not noticeable most of the time from background noise masking it. Success for me too.
Decadron shots helped the ringing in my ears -- and then I started using a Minette device... and I take 6 Lipoflavoids a day -- spread out 2 in the am - 2 in the afternoon and 2 at night -- sodium restricted diet and hydration - all that seems to have helped me.... I am at about a 70% loss in my right ear... I go back in Sept for another hearing test - be interested to see if I have gotten any of it back since I haven't had a bad attack in 4 months....
