Trying a new anti-dep. due to dealing with the ongoing dizziness/head pressure (from Meniere's). I haven't been able to tolerate any anti-dep. so far--and have tried 6 now! On day 17 of this one. Have had bad nausea, tremors--body and head jerking at times.

Xanax seems to help sometime but doesn't last long--and I take 1/2 of the lowest dose, up to 3 a day and so far have kept it to 2 1/2 dosages. This morning, all of a sudden the pressure in my head felt like my brain was swelling and my head would burst--made me feel really anxious! The Xanax, took awhile to help but did help some. Usually lying back and resting my head helps with this daily pressure I have anyway, but it's not helping today!
Weather is sunny but storms in the forecast--and clouds overhead--and I know that an affect it. Still, this is really 'bad'!! Wondering if I call the doctor--again--as he told me to give the new med until mid week this week, meaning tomorrow.
Not sure if he'll just say stop it or change it.

No pain--except mild head aching on these bad days that Tylenol seems to help with, just this awful pressure and on my bad ear side, the tinnitus has returned really loudly! Soooo frustrated and a bit scared too. Was 'so hoping' this new med would help with anxiety and depression.

No vertigo anymore since shunt surgery, and sure hoping it doesn't return. This pressure makes me very uneasy about that possibility though. Just needed to 'vent'.

I feel the same way. I think my pressure, tinnitus and just an over all bad feeling is because of the ear infection in my MM ear. It is a miserable way to live, that is for sure. I am trying to keep positive too, but it is not easy.

Sorry about your ear infection--are you taking something for that? Or did you mean your 'condition' of Meniere's? Either way--sorry to hear you aren't feeling well either. I don't get infections--just what I described above!

I concur with Philosopher's warnings on Paxil.

SSRIs simply address no root causes of Meniere's symptoms; them merely scramble neurological circuits and reflexes so as to make the symptoms less noticable. But the root causes of the symptoms, most often (but not aways by any means) a herpes viral infection of the inner ear or associated nerves, are not suppressed.

I’m confused. I interpret Yanksgirls post & use of antidepressants as a treatment for the emotional ramifications of Meniere’s, rather than to treat Meniere’s itself.

Having said that, I’m all for educating, particularly those who take antidepressants, of the side effects of particular antidepressants. Thanks for the heads up, Philosopher & John

Yes, Nathan that is what I was commenting on. The Paxil is from the Psychiatrist--not the Ent. The Ent has nothing more to offer to help with my symptoms--and the symptoms have brought on the anxiety and depression--and I've tried a very long time to deal with it all. Tried many a/d's as I mentioned. All have side affects that are similar but I've stayed on this one a bit longer. also, the AV's did not work for me, John. So, I'm going to call the doctor tomorrow and see what he advises---was so hoping just to ease the depression/anxiety some. Actually it has helped with the depression (strange), but the anxiety and the awful head pressure and off and on nausea is worse! Thanks for your comments. :)

Have you tried Lexapro? Less side effects.

Quite awhile ago--I have similar side effects from all of them. However, this time the awful head pressure was just 'overwhelming'. I had to lay down a couple of times and that didn't really take it away! Found out my b/p was spiking and that's not happened in a very long time--since being on 2 b/p meds! So, something is causing that--and I suspect it's the new meds since it happened on the 17th day of taking them! :(

Dr. told me to try taking it 'every other day' and see if that helps with the side effects. So, didn't take today--will tomorrow. Today my head has been it's normal self--with head pressure and some mild nausea--but 'nothing' like yesterday. Also the tinnitus that was sooo loud yesterday is done to minimum. So, wonder if I had an MM flare up all on it's own and not related to the Paxil at all. We'll see when I take it again tomorrow. I'll let you know. :)
