Anyone, besides me, get dizzy or feel worse if drink a good amount of liquids? Especially in the morning, if I drink lot of water can get dizzy or hearing gets worse, unless I am in period of remission which I haven't seen in 7 months.
Dwaynehoover, have you had your sodium level checked, this just happened to me, my sodium level was very low in July, was brought back up with IV sodium and last week my sodium level was a little low and I saw my Internist yesterday and he wants me to go on a low liquid 1200 cc's daily and no water for a week, other liquids only. Will see how it goes, it is my 2nd day of low liquids, I did get thirsty yesterday but thankfully I did not have to work out or get sweaty, and I made it through the day. It might be something to look into. Water can flush away sodium.
I do, I do! When concerning water intake as an effective means of controlling meniere's symptoms - which is often recommended - or when concerning hydration in general, it's more so about maintaining regular intake levels. A healthy intake level is preferable, of course, which is somewhere between 2 - 3 litres subject to your weight & size, activity level & geographical positioning - warmer vs cooler climates, altitude etc. If I remember correctly it's somewhere around 0.04 Ltrs per kg a day. That would be roughly half to one ounce per pound for those metrically chaotic. I'm 82kg & 193cm. I exercise for 1 - 2 hours 3 - 4 times a week & average 3 - 3.5 Ltrs in summer per day & 3-ish Ltrs in winter. Avoid sudden increases, & fluctuating or osculating intake levels. If increasing or decrease intake, do so slowly over a 24-72 hour period. For instance, if your water intake varies dramatically from day to day, or week to week, the body in return attempts to either retain or release water more aggressively than it otherwise would. Example, in attempt to place water into reserves to hydrate itself when water intake is low, a body receiving low levels of water for several days will retain more fluid, & will continue to do so for a given amount of time even while water intake increases - this can lead to problems as fluid may breach excess levels. I've noticed that if I suddenly increase my water intake over a 24 hour period, from for example, 3 - 4.5 or 5 litres per day, my tinnitus, aural fullness & hearing becomes worse. However when I'm able to predict situations in which my water intake will require to be significantly increased, if I slowly increase water intake over a week, or a 2 - 3 day period prior to, say hiking in very cold & high altitudes, the same increase of 1.5 - 2 litres doesn't effect my symptoms at all. Likewise, if for any reason I fall asleep while dehydrated, & I sleep for 5 - 8 hours, if I scull .5 - 1 litre of water when I wake up in a short amount of time, my symptoms become worse. However if I wake up & drink the same amount of water over a longer period, my symptoms aren't effected at all.
Jeez. To boil down the above into a bite size soundbite, 1/100th the size of what now appears to be an ol' colossal thang, would be just fantastic.
If water is making you sick and dizzy then take it from me, don't touch the captain Morgan and Ginger Ale! I've lost a lot with the Captain at times including my lunch, dinner, innocence, clothes, girlfriends and even my way home on occasion. As 72 hours ago I stopped drinking. I was at the Braves game the other night with my son and mom and a 60 year old man fell to his from the top deck about 50 feet from where we were sitting. No Mas for me anymore!! Do you take a diuretic?
Thanks Nathan for that water intake advice!!! Coincidentally, yesterday and today I have started measuring my water in a measuring cup and literally drinking the exact same amount every hour, today 2/3 cup per hour, a few times got woozy but no dizziness. To Gardengirl my local friend, the answer is my first 2 weeks on the Valacyc it only made me some worse but not to the breaking point and only got dizzy once. Yesterday and today I have noticed my hearing test first minimal improvement so I am a bit excited. This is my last effort or I will give up and get surgery. I am thinking to stay on the 3000 for 4 weeks and then go to 2000 if I don't quit after the 4 weeks. Scott Tom said he didnt get any improvement either the first 2 weeks so that got me fired up to keep going. I hope you are ok Gardengirl. I hope you are trying to do exercise often.
I have just started again along with the Valacyclovir, 1/4 tab HCTZ diuretic in an effort to withstand the Valacyclovir, but I have had this trouble with liquids for years and most of that time didnt take a diuretic. I believe that there is some infection in my head/inner ear/teeth/whatever that swells if given enough excess liquid. Thats why I wake up always worse everyday for years, the swelling pools in my head/inner ear. Anyone have another theory? Many of us have something like this I assume? I know the doctor doesnt want to hear about this. Who else would I talk to about it but you all.
