I've had this daily head pressure/dizziness, as everyone here knows, and have learned to deal with it. The last couple of months, and more the last few weeks--when it gets so bad, I have to 'nap' (and usually I'd just sit back awhile), but now have to actually 'nap' awhile, and I have dreams that disturb me--and I waken gasping for air sometimes--and then am soooo nauseated for a long time and feel very anxious. Anyone here get these symptoms? Makes one depressed --even more--until finally, after a dose of 1/2 a xanax a being up awhile, it eases (usually) but doesn't go completely away. And often lately, when I waken in the night I deal with the same thing and then in the morning it's either a good morning (meaning no nausea/bad dizziness) or it's both of those. My ent said, when I mentioned maybe seeing a Neuro doctor, that he/she would probably give me a medication and since symptoms seem to worsen with me with new meds--that seeing one probably would not help. That for me to just keep dealing with it the best I could. No vertigo--but some days, awful head pressure/and nausea. Some good news! Due to hubby having surgery, I had to drive this week after months of 'not driving'! It felt so good to drive again--I love driving. My head had the pressure, etc. But doesn't affect my driving--and since I haven't had vertigo in 3 years now, and haven't driven in about 8 mos. or so, I was 'ready to try'. So glad I did. Alot of my self confidence in that regard has returned. Anyway, this nausea/head pressure is really 'not good'. Anyone else experiencing this type of symptom? Is it just anxiety/depression or something else that needs addressing? Would like input--thanks.
My suggestion is it see a neurologist who is knowledgeable and inner ear disorders/migraines and ofc other neurological issues. It cant hurt to be seen by one, and I feel your ENT is doing you a disservice by dissuading you from going. You don't need to take any meds prescribed by any Dr. if you don't want to and its obvious your ENT isn't being much help is fixing your issues.
I had written a lengthy reply to Vicki--and it got deleted because we both were responding at the same time Here is my reply to Vicki and you, Sharon: I've seen two Neuro's over the lst 3 years. General work up and one read the MRI of my head. Both said I had 'silent migraine' symptoms, meaning all the symptoms of migraine without the pain. Both said the Meniere's was the biggest problem! One prescribed Nortryptlyine--and I couldn't take it. The other agreed that was what he would have prescribed. Other neuro tests were 'negative'. Now with the symptoms worse--nausea and head pressure, I asked my Neuro-ent if another visit to a Neurologist would be recommended and he said probably not, since I can't tolerate the meds prescribed and probably would feel worse. I've dealt with depression and anxiety, tried several anti-depresants and only Xanax 2 times a day--low dose (1/2 tablet at a time), keeps me going. With the feeling I need to 'sleep' during the day due to my head having so much pressure and the nausea worse when I waken and off and on during the day, I just keep thinking something else other than depression and anxiety could be going on. Probably not---but you 'search for answers' when you feel this way. Thanks for the input and listening. If I do seek another Neuro opinion, I'll update the outcome here. Thanks again.
ps: the anti-depressants I couldn't take due to bad side affects! Forgot to finish giving that info! Only the Xanax helps, but does make me feel 'drugged' alot of the time, which I don't like but tolerate as it does help.
I have very strange vivid dreams after an episode myself.... Bizarre-- sometimes nightmares- can't explain it.... and yes i wake up with nausea - i take 1100 mg of ginger root capsules and that helps tremendously..... i though i was the only one with the weird dreams....
Forgive me if I've mentioned this before, I don't always remember what I have said and to whom I have said it. So, just a thought... cannabis would take care of most of what you suffer from. Nausea is a thing of the past with minor use and many people talk about the pressure subsiding from cannabis use as well. Anxiety and depression? lol Yeah, that's gone too. Not addictive. Better for your brain than benzos. Helps to contain the most likely underlying cause of our disease. Etc. Etc. Good medicine for folks like us.
Interesting! My primary said any type of drug that affects the nervous system--like benzo's, anti-dep. etc. can cause the vivid dreams! Glad I'm not the only one--though I don't wish them on others. If they were the 'holllywood type' Sound of Music, that would be great, but they are weird, awful and sometimes leave you depressed as you waken. And to Vitolony--yes, you have mentioned this before--and for a younger person, that might help, but at my age--mid 70's, I'm afraid of anything that isn't 'approved'. Glad it helps you though. I think for medical purposes that it is reasonable, but would never say it should be taken on a regular basis. Glad it helps you and thanks for your suggestion.
yanksgirl antidepressants aren't the only migraine meds out there, there are several different classes of migraine meds. You may want to look at Dr Hains flow chart I've posted numerous times which lists different classes of meds. You may find one you can tolerate and that will help. I agree too Xanax and other classes of drugs can cause vivid dreams. If you find a migraine meds that helps with your head pressure and dizziness and you can tolerate you may not need Xanax and not have to deal with vivid dreams. I would still suggest to find a neurOtologist or neurologist that deals with migraines and will give you a different type of migraine med to try.
also forgot to ask you yanksgirl are you following the migraine diet and avoiding migraine trigger foods? If not that might be a help to you.
Yanks girl I hope you find a solution, I really do. I'm not sure Cannibus is the route you want to explore, though...I thought I'd heard everything, LOL.
Understood. I truly hope you find something or a combination of somethings that provide you some relief.
I have to admit I don't follow a 'migraine diet'! But, many years ago when I had 'true migraines==with the pain", I would try it occasionally. Didn't seem to matter--they came when they wanted to Since the Meniere's developed, the 'silent type' came on and has developed to what I'm describing here. Vicki, the doctor I see--is a Neuro/ent, and the two Neuro doc's I've seen both concur that the symptoms indicate 'silent migraine'. You may have a point that some migraine meds are not anti-dep. and possibly I might try one of them. A good suggestion. If I get an appt. with another Neuro doc, I'll ask that question--or even ask my primary. I tell you, yesterday and more so, today has been a 'trip' bad nausea and head pressure. I've taken Zofran, Mylanta--later this evening, and Xanax to deal with it all! Now about to go to bed and hoping for no 'weird dreams'! Anyway+++ Night!!
it might be worth a try again to avoid migraine food triggers. with migraines its all about thresholds. The nausea and dizziness are most likely from the silent migraines, those are typical migraine symptoms..I hope you sleep well yanksgirl and have sweet dreams!
Xanax always caused the worst dreams for me. Valiums cause no weird dreams for me. I use that as meclazine does nothing for me.
yanksgirl I just remembered something, you can try Benadryl, which is a vestibular suppressant and is recommended for vestibular migraines and ofc allergies, but many migrainers use it and get relief.
Are you saying, 'take it to sleep'? I have used it in the past for 'restless leg syndrome'! Recommended by a Vascular surgeon I knew at work. But--in the past few years, I've tried it 'for that' and it didn't help--so stopped using it. Are you saying it to try it for sleep?
Nope I am saying its a vestibular suppressant recommended for MAV and MM to stop vertigo etc. If you do get sleepy from it take it at night but if not take it during the day.
They use Benadryl in ER's to stop vertigo http://www.ncemi.org/cse/cse0111.htm •In the emergency department, treat moderate to severe symptoms of vertigo with intravenous diazepam (Valium) 10 mg or diphenhydramine (Benadryl) 50mg
