I had to sign a consent form at Dr's today that reads as follows. Two recent studies, Canadian Health Authority and another in the BMJ, demonstrating an increased risk of Alzheimer's with chronic benzodiazepine use. Patient is convincing end the benefit outweighs the risks, and had made the decision to continue treatment with a benzodiazepine and to ignore the FDA's recommendation for short-term use. I signed. Here's the question; If these studies were done in other countries, not that I dispute the findings, how can the FDA make any recommendations without performing their own studies and why haven't they been alerted enough to perform their own studies?
Those findings are not new. It's been clear since the 80s that chronic benzo usage causes terrible addiction problems along with cognitive decline. You would be well advised NOT to take it daily. It's only meant for 'when needed' usage.
I was prescribed the Ativan to take only if the vertigo attack hit to reduce the severity and length of attack. Prescription in 10 pill increments only as each of my doctors throughout the years were very cautious about the long term issues of taking this ongoing.
speaking of Alzheimer's this is off topic but they are finding links between HSV and Alzheimer's. I would guess that means the virus attached itself somewhere in the brain. Nasty virus that HSV.
Any new info on the shaking virus to kill It? Maybe that can be helpful for Alzheimer's Patients as well if its viral related .
