I heard that advil and ibuprofen is ototoxic and shouldn't be used if you have Menieres. I have 4 wisdom teeth I'm considering to get pulled since now I'm getting some TMJ action on my left side (opposite to my Meniere's ear). So wondering what have you guys used? Thanks
I found the answer if anyone is interested. Here are the medications and how they can be toxic to the ear http://www.dizziness-and-balance.com/disorders/bilat/ototoxins.html Ibuprofen and Advil are toxic to hearing apparently so I'm not that concerned, since hearing is ok. I'm sure it's about prolonged use, otherwise many people would be deaf by now. I was concerned about balance toxicity.
Really, all you need is clove oil. My wisdom teeth were impacted and then I got dry sockets. That was the worst case scenario. The narcotics did little, but the clove oil drops on the wounds instantly killed the pain. And you can dose whenever you need it.
I've never needed painkillers after an extraction wisdom or otherwise, but then again never had 4 done at once.
Thanks for your feedback guys, I might try clove oil. Would be nice if I didn't need them but my wisdom teeth are not loose, they're solid in their place so I'm assuming it will be painful afterwards. Oh yeah, did you guys opt to get knocked out or just had the area frozen?
I opted for needles the whole thing takes 5 minutes once your numb. Well that's for one tooth. I suggest going to an oral surgeon for extractions, not a general dentist.
Can Motrin cause mm? For the past year Before my onset I was on 800 mg of Motrin For a herniated disc which was for approximately 5 or 6 months, then for a tooth extraction. I continued using it for ear presure ( thinking It was a blocked ear from a cold) I Wonder if there's a connection. If it is the cause Can it go away when Motrin is stopped for a while?
Oral surgeon costs $600/per tooth, I'm not prepared to pay that much but I agree ideally it should be done by an oral surgeon. The thing is though general dentists can always do it, some rather not so they refer to oral surgeons. And they're about 4x cheaper. Lisa, Motrin aka Ibuprofen can be toxic to hearing, more info in the link I posted in this thread. "Aspirin and Nsaids (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory agents) -- are commonly used, and apparently are only toxic to hearing . These include Advil, Nuprin, Motrin (Ibuprofen), Aleve, Naprosyn, Anaprox (Naproxen), Feldene, Dolobid, Indocin, Lodine, Relafin, Toradol, Volteran, Salicylates: Aspirin, disalcid, Bufferin, Ecotrin, Trilisate, Ascriptin, Empirin, Excedrin, Fiorinal. Arthrotec (diclofenac and misoprostel) has been associated with tinnitus and hearing reduction (Bombardier, Peloso et al. 1995). "
