Jaypr, did you follow a specific elimination diet? I have been trying to figure out if I have any food triggers with no success. I tried the Paleo diet for 4 months, have eliminated salt, caffeine, alcohol and all processed sugars and still have my occasional vertigo. I am tired of cutting out all of these foods and not noticing any significant difference. I think the elimination diet will at least indicate if I do truly have any food triggers. I have been scratch tested for food allergies and have none. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

My MD and I have discussed this, but the tumor is very, very small. The chances of completely losing my hearing in that ear, or facial paralysis, are not in my favor for surgery.

Thanks for this answer. I'm going to start being a little more liberal with my Ativan and taking it more quickly.

    Hi Muff

Yes the elimination diet was to 1 by 1 eliminate all the foods and drinks listed in David Buchholz's book "Heal Your Headache".
The list is considerable, and I had not ate some of the items before anyway. By doing it that way way I was able to say categorically that yes this item was a trigger and no this other item isn't. It's not an easy process because what could be a trigger one day could not be a trigger on another day. As it was dependent upon where your threshold level is at any given point. So not easy but I felt it was worth it. Buchholz also has plenty of suggestions about the foods and drinks that are safe.

There is a chapter in the book all about threshold and how important it is. I found that foods that were high in tyramine would definitely bring a vertigo attack on.

The other thing to remember apart from MAV is that if you believe menieres is caused by the herpes virus (as I do) there are certain foods and drinks that the virus will thrive on making things worse. Vicki is the lady to ask about high and low arginine content in foodstuffs.

    Wishing you well

    Frank

:( So, from what I've been reading, ALL my favorite foods are bad for me. This makes me very sad. Back to the lettuce and ice cube diet. :( :( :(

Thanks so much, Frank. I really appreciate your help! I am definitely going to try it. I just have to find the right timing. Probably soon before the holidays :)
