Hi there, so pleased to have found this forum. Just wondering if anybody can shed some light on my symptoms? -Tinnitus -Deafness ( just in my right ear) -Dizzy spells (after a dizzy spell , my hearing comes back) these are the main ones but i have to say I do have a bit of neck trouble. Ive had these about 6 months now and the ENT doc diagnosed Vestibular migrane, after doing the meniere's test ( they lay you back and see if you go dizzy) Nothing happened when he did this..... but I was well at the time, does this make any difference? Also my hearing test was also good so he said I hadnt got meniere's. Please anyone does this sound like Meniere's? Im bad about 70% of the time, and finding it hard to cope.
Chrissie here is a thread I made that may help you tell the difference and a chart attached to my post http://menieres.org/talk/index.php?topic=1356.0
Hi there Vicki, thanks ever so much for that. After reading this I feel I am more meniere's than migrane. I guess I just find it difficult to understand how I could possibly have a migrane 24/7 ? The dizzy spell are mainly short lived and sometimes I wake up with one, but to be honest they are getting a lot milder, in that I can carry on as normal. The thing im finding hard to cope with is the deafness in my right ear and quite loud tinnitus in both ears I think. The dizzy spells I welcome because then I can hear again. I was wondering if its my age bringing all this on.....im 46 and approaching menopause I think. I think I need to go back to docs but they dont seem to understand much about it here in the UK. Thank you again, i really appreciate it , kind regards, Chrissie x
I have both MAV (Migraine Associated Vertigo) and MM (Menieres). Most of my dizziness and vertigo is from the MAV. It does not effect my hearing.
Hello and welcome, Usually with Menieres there is hearing loss that is progressive. Migraine is more than just a headache it is a whole neurological pathology. You can have symptoms without having a headache and you can get caught up in a cycle that can seem never ending. There is a great thread that might be a bit overwhelming to read http://www.menieres.org/forum/index.php/topic,29072.0.html or I recomend you get the book Heal Your Headache Paperback – by David Buchholz I saw it on Amazon.uk for as low as 35p used.It will explain a lot for you.
You need an MRI to rule out Acoustic Neuroma, too. I have both Meniere's and an Acoustic Neuroma. The AN has the same symptoms as Meniere's. Good Luck.
In my country, another test is used to check for acoustic neurinoma. It is called brainstem, auditory evoked potentials test.
