Just my opinion and based on the last delete maybe you could refrain from making it an issue as you just have. I'm not a moderator or the owner of this site but Vicki makes a great contribution on so many topics. It would be a shame if one persons challenges kept her away.
She does make great contributions to this forum. I daresay that the forum would not be what it is without Vicki. @ Over half of what I have learned on this forum I learned from her posts and PMs with her. That's another reason why this baffles me a little. She is usually the first to give something an honest look. She posts research all the time. Yet in this one, she has seemed closed and unwilling to have an open conversation about it. Makes me curious. If she did in fact read that cannabis is effective against herpes, do the immune suppressive effects (which I don't agree with, but okay) provide sufficient motivation in her view to avoid it? Does she view the potential kidney damage that anti-virals bring to the table as equally damning? Yet she uses those. Why? That's all. I just have questions based on her behavior and posts that would make for an interesting conversation.
The kidney issue is extremely rare and easily handled by regular checks. Stop using scare words just to stir up emotional reactions.
I am going to state my positon on pot once again just to clear up all the misinformation that is being posted about me thinking they know how I feel and think. 1. I have said several times in this thread that low thc pot looks like it can help many with symptoms and with different illnesses. 2. I have also said high thc is where the risks and side effects occur which is backed up by scientific fact, research and doctors. (whether anyone wants to believe it or not I don't care, its fact) 3. The doctor Margaret linked too who is a supporter of pot for medicinal purposes and authorizes it for his patients clearly stated the exact risks pot has, as I stated and documented. 4. I have not once told people not to use pot in this thread or any other thread. 5. I do not support suggesting a treatment w/o mentioning its risks, I have posted many times to remind people on AV's to have their kidneys and liver checked on forums and in pm's which I get many pm's asking for help and advice and I have tried to help anyone who asks me for it 6. I have also posted long term studies of Antivirals showing its safety and efficacy. 7. I have not posted any studies on the safety of long term use of pot because I have not come across any. 8. I have said several times in this thread, its individual choice what treatment to pursue but people need to know the good and the bad whether it be pot, antivirals, surgeries etc etc etc!
I don't have full-blown vertigo very often, so I can't say much about that right now. I can say that prior to cannabis tincture, I was often nauseous, and the pharmaceuticals prescribed to me are ototoxic and they make me sleep all the time. The cannabis tincture barely affects me as far as getting "high" or sleepy. It's NOT ototoxic, AND I am no longer feeling like I want to puke 24/7 So, no. It doesn't cure the vertigo. But it helps me live my life with far fewer symptoms.
So I had a severe vertigo attack 2 nights ago, woke me up at 2 in the morning throwing up. Hot flashes, cold sweats, room spinning, the whole 9. That was fun. I had been playing with MAV triggers and I added 1 back in for dinner that night(cheese). It had been out of my diet for some weeks(4-5). The reaction from adding it back in was pretty violent, not to mention illuminating. I was unable to ingest any cannabis until about 2 hours into the attack. Vomiting every 10 minutes and being unable to move my head without vomiting again made it difficult to do much of anything, even just smoke. I did eventually get to smoke some. I used the high CBD strain "Harlesin", which is a cross between ACDC and harlequin, both high CBD strains. Just 3 full hits and the vomiting immediately ended and I was able to go to sleep and stay asleep. I was somewhat surprised that a high CBD strain alone worked so well as a control medication for an actual attack. It had been a while since I have had a full blown spinner. I expected to need to use something with a bit more kick in it to really be able to survive the event intact. So all of you who are down on THC can take that as further evidence of the evils of THC. ;-) Didn't take much of the CBD to shut down the vomiting. Probably less than a quarter gram of flower.
This particular strain is usually 4-5% THC and 10-15% CBD. So a quarter gram of flower amounts to around 10MG of THC and around 35MG of CBD. That was an effective dose for a 220LB man to achieve relief from the vomiting of a vertigo attack and go to sleep. ZERO high from that much cannabis. None what-so-ever.
I'm so stoned right now I just asked my SIL if she wanted to get a shower with me thinking it was my wife now they all think I'm a pervert. At least it was my SIL and not my mo or oldest son. Ugh!!!!! I think I puffed a little to much a little too long.
So. I got a medical card last week. The Dr was very through, and serious about alternative treatments. He is the same Dr who wrote the articles I linked to in an earlier response here. He emphasized that the cannabis dose should be as consistent as possible, and that it should not be strong enough for me to actually feel it. That said, he did authorize me to grow the max # of plants allowed by state law since he isn't likely to see me for a year, and I have no idea how many plants I will actually need. After a bit of reading about growing medical cannabis, I learned that the max is a good idea, since most folks won't want them all in the same spot in the growing cycle all at once. When we think of cannabis plants, we generally think of them like the ones we see on the news when cops have a big drug bust. Eight feet tall, six feet around. That sort of thing. And yeah, that's a lot of weed. But the average person who grows medicinally might have a few starts, a couple teenagers, and maybe one or two big plants. And, since some of the starts will not thrive, it's easy to get close to or go over your max # of plants sometimes. Even though some of those plants might be two inches tall... ESPECIALLY since some of those plants are two inches tall ... And getting a plant to start with is a tricky business. I can now legally grow some. OBTAINING one to grow, that's a different puzzle to solve. And I haven't solved it yet. Now, the experience of going to the medical cannabis shop was different. Here in Washington State we've been going to the retail pot shop for over a year now. I thought the medical shops would be wildly different, and, at least in my small town, there are only small differences. And, oddly, the medical shops have less stock of the low THC stuff than the recreational shops have at the moment. The medical shop did have some very good high CBD oil however, and that's what I bought. I also bought some THC bonbons and boy was that a mistake. I do not handle THC well at all. On the day that I tried half a bonbon I found my ability to sense where my body was was highly altered. And I had a harder time being a passenger in a vehicle. I did not try to drive. I have always been more susceptible to THC than most people, and so this probably won't be the same for others. But it does harken back to my Dr's advice: Don't take more than you can handle. This is common advice for many drugs. As for the CBD oil, I've used just a few teensy tiny drops a day, every day, since I got it. And, with the exception of the day I did the THC, I've had decent balance. No spins at all. Very little brain fog. AND NO NAUSEA. My appetite has been very good, with no overbearing munchie compulsions. AND I've noticed an unexpected effect. I have an issue unrelated to Meniere's. I have an overactive bladder. Not uncommon for a female in my age range. And my overactive bladder has been getting worse over the past few years. I'd go from perfectly fine to OMG NOWWWWW!!!! in half a second. On days when my Meniere's is acting up getting to the toilet on time has been nearly impossible. OK. Absolutely impossible. And so I've been wearing pads for the last year or more. I very nearly began wearing adult diapers. BUT THE CANNIBIS SEEMS TO HAVE CURED THIS. I haven't had to run to the bathroom in a week. A WHOLE WEEK. Of nice, leisurely walks to the toilet. No tripping over stuff while I run. No worrying about dropping my trekking poles fast enough to pull my pants down fast enough... NOTHING. OK so it's NOT Meniere's related exactly. But it is a definite effect. So, for me, the medical cannabis is a total win. I am still using it as a sublingual tincture. The high CBD low THC is excellent for me.
Glad you're having some success. 8) FWIW, edibles will have a major effect on the body, but not so much in the head. Makes ya tired, sleepy and very relaxed and kills pain, but would not be a recommended method for helping the Meniere's symptoms (and in fact might make them worse). Raising your own is not as simple a proposition as one might think. If growing indoors, you need to consider how much light to use, proper ventilation, feeding, etc. Then comes all the nasty critters we have to deal with here in the NW, such as spider mites (aka: The Borg), powdery mildew, fungus gnats, etc. You will need, at minimum, a 400W HPS ballast, fixture and lamp for the flowering stage, and if needed you can make a decent "veg" light using a 4 lamp bathroom light bar, socket doublers and CFL lamps (in the 5000k range). You can get some good package deals on eBay, or if you have a decent indoor gardening store in your area you might consult with them. Growing a plant indoors is one thing, but growing it well enough to produce medical grade MJ is something else entirely. Be prepared to invest both time and money into your grow, as once you add in the cost of nutrients, solutions to pests and other issues plus growing hardware it can get expensive to get started. Worth it in the long run through. Check out a site called Greenpassion.Org. It is a superb site for new growers, and you'll get all the help you'll need. If you join, send Tokecrazy and PM and tell him ISO sent ya. Man's forgotten more about growing than I'll ever know. I won't be posting any more information on Medical MJ; to be honest, it becomes very frustrating when every post I make requires me to respond to "counter info" that others find on the web. I check the site daily, so if there are any questions I can help with please drop me a PM.
i got so stoned last night i thought i was at the beach and put my wet suit on and walked around the house with a mask, snorkel and fins on all the while holding my spear gun thinking the wife and SIL were meaty delicious big eyed tuna. This went on until 3 in the morning until my wife told me i was either going to bed or the psychiatric ward. I hit rock bottom and told them to take away my bong!!!
Easy there young man...just back away from the bong...slowly. ??? For real? In all the years I've been around MJ I have never, not once, ever seen anyone so stoned they did something like that. What else did you have to go with it? Many, many moons ago I was out checking trap lines at night with a couple buddies. When we arrived at one location, all 3 of us smoked a doobie apiece before hiking down to the pond. Now, this pond sat in what I'd call a "bowl", in that the terrain around it was all covered in salal and devils club, and it all sloped up. Well, at night, all that up-sloping terrain looked the same when you're standing in the pond...and we were all thigh deep in the 38F. water and wearing hip waders. Getting wet is...bad. We got lost...just kept wandering around the bank of the 2 acre pond looking for the way we came in. Must have been a good hour or more, and then finally we heard a car approaching and realized we were less than 30' from the paved roadway... ;D
* If I smoked that's how I imagine it would be * I bet food would taste really good, too. You guys will have to let me know.
Thanks for this. So for nasea, I should give some CBD oil a try? Sublingual? If so I'll waddle down to get my card renewed and give it it a try.
You could certainly try that. I have made my own tinctures, thanks to the information in this thread. The CBD Rick Simpson Oil (RSO) I bought at the local dispensary was supposed to be dosed out in "rice sized" doses. Thing is, that was kind of hard to control. So, I added it to my homemade tinctures and simply began to give myself smaller drops from the bottle. If you can tolerate THC you should have some of that with the CBD as it mediates the other cannabinoids. You might want to try vaping the cannabis too, as that has a faster onset time and if you're in an acute attack it might be important to not risk puking your meds up.
