If so (that it's white), who is the manufacturer? Mine, manufactured by Ranbaxy, is blue. Now that it looks like there is no end in sight to me taking Valacyclovir (something I am very grateful for because that means it works), I'd love to see if I can find a version without the aluminum lake blue on the outside.
The brand that I took was Mylan. It is a white pill. I only took it for 5 days and had a very bad side effect so went off it. I was thinking of trying the original drug not a generic and see if it helps. It will cost more but it is worth the try. Then I can rule out that it was the generic that gave me the side effect.
Should I be worried that mine is blue? Because it works I kinda don't care what color It is. I think I would take it even if it was rainbow.
Mine is blue from Northstar. When my pharmacy filled with Milan (white) I had return of symptoms within 48 hrs.
Thanks everyone who has answered (and keep those answers coming). The only white one with a brand mentioned so far is Milan/Mylan and it's not getting good reviews. That's too bad. Santa, I'm wary of ingesting things with fake colors--many of them have toxins. It is a small amount, but taking it three times a day every day adds up. Clearly, at least for me, at this point the benefits outweigh the risks, but if I could find one that works without the color, even better.
Should add - until this drug I personally never noticed a difference in performance between generic or brand; also never ever paid attention to the manufacturer listed on the prescription bottle. But when I had been finally feeling relief to have return of symptoms within 48 hrs when switching...made me look. And both times that the prescription was filled with Milan I immediately had the same setback. So, lesson learned for me - stay with what works!
I have used the white Valacyclovir (Mylan) for about 5 years without any side effects. However, I only use it when I have an outbreak of a cold sore and not everyday. As soon as I have the feeling of a paper cut on my lip I take two 1-gram tablets followed by a single tablet 12 hours later and the cold sore never materializes. I have never tried using it on a regular basis to manage my Meniere's disease, but will speak with my doctor about it after reading messages on this website.
