Does anyone else have dizzy spells at night, while you are trying to sleep? Last night was my 3rd one of these. Don't get me wrong, I will take those any day, over having one at work, or on a weekend. They make my sleep really fitful, and I am exhausted the next day. I think I'm going to keep the Meclazine by my bedside in the future, so I can take a couple and maybe sleep a little better.
Before I started acyclovir 3 years ago I would get vertigo attacks in my sleep but not dizzy spells. I would wake up screaming trying to hold on to something, vertigo is a very nasty way to be awakened.
I would get vertigo at night all the time. I always seemed to dream about being caught up in a tornado and just spinning around and around. In those dreams I would only hear the wind and the tornado sirens. Then as I would wake up only to have blaring tinnitus and vertigo. I would get sick and be unable to do anything but sleep for the rest of the day. The thing I hated the most was that I never had time to take a valium to lessen the intensity of the attack so they always lasted twice as long.
Thankfully, I haven't had dreams involving vertigo or dizziness. I'm sure if I did, I'd be throwing up too. Last night I felt it coming on when I was going to bed, so I tried to go to sleep, hoping I would sleep through it. I didn't.
Dizziness is a term used to describe a range of sensations, such as feeling faint, woozy, weak or unsteady. The false sense that you or your surroundings are spinning or moving is called vertigo.
I have been woken up many times with the vertigo. It is a HORRIBLE way to wake up. I had a period a couple of years ago that for almost 3 weeks 4 out of 7 days I would wake up with vertigo attacks. It got to where as soon as I closed my eyes I would jerk awake "thinking" I was starting an attack but wasn't. Almost like PTSD. Horrible. Meclizine does nothing for me with full vertigo - only ativan under the tongue will shorten my attacks. And during the attack there is NO way I can close my eyes it makes it 1000x worse. For what it's worth, the period I referred to that the night attacks were the constant was in high stress shortly after my mom passed away unexpectedly. For sure stress has always been a trigger for me (day or night).
I get vertigo during the night on occasion ( although I haven't vomited) -- even with ambien and a valium before bed ( i have horrific insomnia - which is really great when rest is such an important part of keeping the vertigo at bay)... its def no fun and I have a permanent bucket next to my bed now. Just easier to keep it there in case.... thankfully i haven't needed it in about 8 months - but i feel like if i take it away I am jinxing myself. LOL - so it stays.
I am on the lucky side, and don't usually have vertigo (although I HAVE had a few bad episodes). That said, yes. I have been woken up with vertigo a couple of times. Each time was when I was sick with strep throat and a bad fever.
I am in the process of being diagnosed with Ménière's. The other night I did the exact same thing! I thought something had been cut loose in my head. It scared me to death. I'm so glad that someone else has experienced this. I don't feel as alone.
