I am on valcyclovir 3G/day for 5 months. I have enjoyed great relief from vertigo since day 4 of taking the AV. I have had some ups and downs but never got as bad again. Three weeks ago we went on a drive to the mountains. I looked over my shoulder and got a bad spin. I panicked bc I thought I was about to have a MM attack. We got home and I went straight to bed. My eyes were tired and I was stressed. Before that moment we were having a pretty good time. Three days later I got another severe spin when I rolled over in bed. I was SO thankful bc I relaxed this wasn't MM kicking up, this was BPPV. I can handle that! I did 2 epleys that days and was able to get back to life. Now, two weeks later I have been having "mini spins" that don't seem to relate to my head position. They are shortish (getting longer?). They don't cause me to fall and I can usually continue what I am doing until I can get somewhere to lay down. This dizziness cannot be BPPV right? The room doesn't spin and it doesn't seem to matter about position. The thing is, my ear feels pretty happy MM wise. No real fullness. I have noticed there will be low level buzzing for a few minutes everyday, but dizziness doesn't always follow. Wondering if anyone had expirience end something similar. Should I still try epleys even though the dizziness feels a little different than before? Trying not be to discouraged but the random dizziness has really brought some fear back to the surface.

could be an ear or sinus infection, before doing the epley I would get tested for BPPV by a vestibular therapist or a Dr who knows how to test for it, there is a definite way for them to know if it is or isn't.

All I can say is were you watching your sodium intake still?

I had something similar but only when in bed and the previous day I had high salt content food. It acted like BPPV but when I got a doc to check if it is by doing the dix hallpike maneuvre the room didn't spin, it was gone on it's own, then I realized I had salty food or food with MSG the day before.

also could be allergies, and on the salt idea, could you have eaten foods that could have triggered some dizziness, like eating foods with more arginine than lysine?

Yes, it could indeed be BPPV...I'm having a bout of it myself right now.

It's possible that the crystals are in another canal other than the usual posterior. They may have found their way to the horizontal canal or (although rarely) the anterior canal.

There is a manoeuvre called the log roll for the horizontal canal but best be seen by an ENT or vesribular physio who will be able to correctly identify which canal.

I no longer do the Epley at home after once managing to displace the crystals into one of the other canals, and having to practically crawl to the eye and ear hospital. The dizziness feels almost like it 'slams' you very suddenly, albeit briefly.

Even once the crystals have been successfully repositioned, I've found some residual mini spins/vertigo often seem to hang around for a few days, it's very annoying as you think the treatment hasn't worked.

BPPV usually resolves after a while without treatment, although mine has been hanging in there for almost two weeks now. I haven't attempted any manoeuvres.

BPPV sucks big time if you already have a vesribular disorder as you are tormented both day AND night! :'(

My extensive Googling has shown that sometimes caffeine, chocolate and a high sugar diet can be triggers, but those are just theories other sufferers have come up with.

Thank you for your replies! Several factors could be contributing. I will wait a few days to see if things resolve. I need to watch my salt more closely, I had gotten slack. I have been watching arginine/lysine ratios. We shall see. Thanks, OneHorse, I hope that this is just a BPPV hangover.
