Well it 3am and I am 'wide awake.com' bugger! Spent 5 hours in hospital yesterday, and finally have a clinical diagnosis, after 6 long months, it's "Menieres with an Otolithic Crisis"; It is the Otolithic Crisis that causes me to collapse, 2 to 3 times a week, last attack, lasted 13 hours; I have been have 2 to 3 attacks a week since APRIL 2015. Apparently this combination is extremely rare, and the surgeon only treats 1 or 2 patients with this combination a year, how lucky am I. Anyway now I have a working diagnosis I started my treatment plan yesterday, my first of 3 injections of Dexamethosone, injected through my ear drum ( not nice, and very probably why I can't sleep). In 2 weeks I am having my second injection and a grommet fitted in my ear. If this fails to stop my attack I will then be given Gentamicin which has a 90% success rate of stopping attacks, but at a cost, it can damage my already crap hearing! But I am remaining positive, as the surgeon is confident he can rid me of this bloody awful disease.... P.S the worst part of the injection procedure was the local anaesthetic cream been applied to my ear drum, the injection for me was painless, maybe I was lucky....
So sorry to hear you are experiencing drop attacks. Please be extra careful as drops can lead to very dangerous situations. Hopefully your physician has told you to stay away from ladders and driving. I hope you get relief from the plan of treatment. Good luck and be safe.
DaveT - I hope your treatment works. I wouldn't necessarily say (in my opinion) that Otolithic Crisis/drop attachs are really that rare. A lot of people with Meniere's get them. Having 2-3 a week is significant though for sure! I believe that there are not as "many" people with drop attacks frequent on this board because a good portion of them probably went direct to surgery to fix it once and for all. I am really hoping that you are one of the % that respond quickly, favorably and ongoing to the injections. Good luck. Stay safe.
