Diagnosed with Meniere's a few years ago. Initially had severe attack, vertigo, vomiting, awful! Had a 2nd similar attack several months later. No more severe attacks. A couple of weeks ago, began having balance issues, no vertigo, no vomiting. My main issue is my husband is chronically ill and has been hospitalized more times than I can count in the past year. While I know there is no "cure", I am wondering where is the best place to go for treatment...my ENT said here's Meclazine and some 2mg Valium tablets, go home and live with it. I need to be able to function to take care of DH! Any input would be greatly apperciated!
Many of us in fact the majority of us (but not all) get symptom relief from antivirals. Check the forums database for Dr Gaceks publications on antivirals for Meniere's symptoms.
Do you see a neurotologist? If not, make an appointment with one. They know more about Menieres than an ENT. My doctor has told me that even though it can't be cured, there are ways to treat this disease so that you can have your life back. He has been working with Menieres patients for at least 30 years. Good luck and keep us posted. Read through some info on this forum if you have time. You will have tons of information for your doctor the next time you see him.
Many people have gotten help from House Ear clinic.Dr.Danberry. If you do a search you on the old forum archives you will discover many threads. Good luck to you! http://www.menieres.org/forum/index.php/topic,37090.0.html
I have been to Emory, House Ear clinic, Shea Ear Clinic (maybe the best IMO), John Hopkins (Highest rated OTO department in world) and Dr. Rauch at Mass eye and ear--Harvard (the best doctor i saw in the country) I prefer the doctors that understand MM and give you your options and let you make the decisions, for me that was Dr. Rauch and he gave me a recommendation to Emory and Dr. Mattox-- His friend and colleague and i had the laby. I just wanted the truth and Rauch gave it to me in a straight forward way. My advice is to go to top notch research Universities as they have probably seen and dealt with the worst of the worst cases of mm and as they say "understand what you are going through"
