Back as far as I can remember I have been the biggest clutz (clumsy) Everything falls out of my hands, I drop things on a regular basis, I spill things a lot too. But mostly I drop things all the time. I am wondering if this is Meniere's related and if anyone else is clumsy too. Or it's just me.
For years the right side of my body was noticeably weaker/numb than my left. Same side as my cochlear hydrops. I even had a slight limp on the right side. Lots of relief through Nucca
Hey Vicki, Yes, I'm clumsy, too. It may be due to something called, "spacial disorientation." I'd think it would on the long post about cognitive effects. I wouldn't know where to find it or how to bring it up again and not a link. I do remember it hit so many nails in the head for me that I thought, "it's not just me and it's because of this disease." It's a great post for the newbies here. It explains so much and not all of it HAS to apply to each individual.
I haven't been dropping things but I have noticed that, when my dizziness is at it's worst, that I have a hard time walking straight, tend to balance myself by holding onto the wall/counter/etc. Then again I seem to be a secondary type instead of a typical MM type. (Knock on wood ...)
Hey Vicki, I have noticed that I have become more clumsy the past couple of years, dropping things, I was beginning to think there might be something wrong with me instead of Meniere's, but I try to quickly erase that kind of thinking from my mind. Maybe it is a tendency with Meniere's.
I don't know about you all but when I'm in a bad patch I find it hard just thinking straight let alone holding onto something without dropping it. Vince
I don't have any symptoms anymore due to being on acyclovir, and I still drop things all the time, have been like this as far back as I can remember, but then again I got MM at age 13.
not sure but secondary endolymphtaic hydrops means caused by a known disease MM is said to be endolymphtaic hydrops due to an unknown cause
Funny thing I never was. Now carrying a cup of coffee to the table may not make it there with a spill. I'll go to grab something and it's closer then I think and I knock something over. Let's see...some of mine are memorable but right now I'm at a loss. Once I dropped the bottle of bleach on the bathroom floor with the top off...I had the cleanest bathroom floor ever. This is one reason I won't drive while symptomatic. I can't gauge distances, sometimes I'm the turtle backing out of that parking space. Looking into the rear view mirror sets me off like crazy and forget it if the wipers are on. Sorry for going off topic. My cognition thread is like this one. Each of us sharing some things not necessarily medical but do apply to people with menieres. I hope this topic takes off with people with similar experiences. If for no other reason than support. People should be posting in The Cognition stories thread. It lets you know you're not alone. Some of those stories are funny, too. I have a long one. I was waitressing and as senior waitress and training coordinator so I was skilled. It was my first week of feeling, "off." Walking out of the kitchens doors carrying a tray on my shoulder with 5 high end dinners on it, I misjudged the distance and slammed into the door dropping the whole tray. I was mortified and embarrassed but I was getting hot and starting to feel what I thought was dizzy. I had worked there for 12 years and had never dropped anything. I couldn't seem to see the distance properly.'then the spinning started and to the ER and the round of Drs until I found the right one.
Clumsy. Uncoordinated. Sometimes I feel stupid. Other times I wonder if I am heading into dementia. Worrisome. Yesterday as I started out the door, realized I didn't have my watch on, so carried it out in my hand, dropped it without realizing it, got in the car and ran errands, drove home, got out of the car, and there in the driveway was my watch. I had run over it. Didn't even miss it when out and about. A new watch given to me for Christmas. Fortunately only the band needs to be replaced. The watch itself seems okay.
