I broke another tooth and could not see my dentist because of holiday. I have been depressed & anxious dreading another visit to dentist. Most of my teeth are either crowns or fillings that need crowns. The dentist experience is horrible for me because of MM, hypersensitive to noise, seizures, & allergy to glues/cements, heart problem etc. The smell of the glues they use make me ill. After the last crown I had done I was so sick I had to hold the wall to stand up, my face was swollen & red. I hoped I would be dead before I had to go through that again, yet here I am facing it again. I take my anxiety med before going but that doesn't help & I can't have anymore sedation. I know that using ear plugs only make the noise worse so they are no help & I know a lot of you have the same problems.

Being old & having a young dentist that has no patience doesn't help. He tries to be kind by asking if I'm ok, but once he starts with a crown it doesn't matter if I'm ok or not he has to finish the procedure. I don't want to stress the dentist any more than I already do. Taking small breaks doesn't seem to help because I am anxious to get it over with as quickly as possible. I hate being such a baby about this. Has anyone discovered a way to reduce the noise or stress? Thanks.

I've had some success when having MRIS that cause anxiety for me by asking the techs to play music I bring and find relaxing. I understand a crown is much more intense than an mri and that headphones might not be an option but I'll bet the dentist would be open to it if it might help you relax. Good luck with it.

Sorry you have to deal with this.

Headphones sounds like a great idea. I also think you might try to find another dentist who is more understanding. I think a lot of them would be. When I'm at the dentist it helps if they can minimize how far back they put my head.
