Hi, My ENT Consultant has diagnosed me with Menieres and Otolithic Crisis. I have not been able to work since August this year and my future prospects look bleak as I am having 2 to 3 attacks a week. I am no longer allowed to drive as my attacks give little or no warning. These attacks, which I call drop attacks can last up to 13 hours, which leaves me totally incapacitated. I have just completed 2 injections of Dexamethosone through my ear drum and the surgeon is talking about Low Dose Gentamicin, which he would give over a 6 week period (3 injections) So I am looking for help and advice on 2 points: 1) would I be eligible for benefits in the UK? Has anyone claimed benefits, if so which ones. 2) Has anyone had the gentamicin treatment and did it work? Thank you, really need advice, Dave
Hi Dave I haven't had the treatments you are talking about. On the benefit side I would locate a one stop shop who are on your side. They would be able to help you without you initially having to approach the social services. Failing that I would approach the citizens advice centre. Hope this helps Regards Frank
Hi Davet, I would suggest joining the Facebook group: Meniere's:stay positive. There are several folks from the UK that run the group. I know they have document files of how to apply for disability in the UK. A friendly group....they will help you with any questions. https://www.facebook.com/groups/menieresstaypositive/ Take care!
