Hello all - Can someone help me understand what kind of things I can expect? So far I have recurrent episodes of hearing loss in my left ear, tinnitus and aural fullness. It happens sometimes after a few weeks or sometimes every few days. My longest episode so far has been a week.. Thankfully no dizziness yet. My questions are: 1. Does everyone ultimately progress to complete deafness or do you end up with hearing loss aidable with hearing aids? 2. Does the antiviral therapy help retain hearing and does it help if you don't have dizziness? 3. Is the first year the most active part of the disease? Does it quiet down for periods of time? 4. How long can I expect my hearing to keep returning after episodes before it starts to exhibit permanent loss? Thanks Susan
Hi Susan Everyone progresses differently, so I can only speak for myself. All my hearing returned after a few months of antivirals.
Hi, Susan. Scott Tom is so right about everyone having a different experience. I wish that there was something about this syndrome that was predictable. I have had ear fullness non-stop for a year. Other symptoms like pressure and dizziness fluctuate. I also have hearing loss in my right ear that seems to be fairly stable. I have not had the vertigo. I took an antiviral for four months and did not see significant improvement, but that is definitely worth a try. I used to have some tinnitus but that went away. I think the lemon bioflavonoid complex, vinpocetine, and gingko biloba extract (from JOH regimen) has helped with that. I wish you the best in finding relief.
