Hi - Has anyone out there had a good or bad experience after wisdom tooth extraction? My left ear is the bad ear and my dentist said I had inflamation around my left upper and lower wisdom teeth and it was curious she said, that this is the side my ear problems are on. I am going for a consult next week with an oral surgeon since I have delayed getting these out. I'm afraid extraction may make things worse or maybe they are part of the problem. Anyone have any experience with this procedure and how it affected their MM? Thanks, Susan
My concern would be them extending your jaw too far if they put you out during the procedure. Menieres symptoms can mimic TMJD, and can be inflamed by stressing the jaw. Look into options including keeping you awake during the procedure.
Hi - Thanks Mustang80 - I will ask about that. Has anyone else out there had extraction of non-impacted wisdom teeth during their lifetime with Menieres? I'd appreciate anyone else weighing in.
but have had other teeth extracted on my MM ear side, and it did not affect my Meniere. Once about 1 or 2 years ago a root canal gave me a drop attack walking back to the waiting room after the root canal was done. I dropped onto the waiting room chairs, if they were not there I would have hit the floor. But he kept me in a positon that I was dizzy for the whole time. That was not fun at all!
Hi Vickie - thank you so much for replying. I understand you have been helped with antivirals. One question - how has your hearing been affected before and after antivirals? Thanks Susan
Susan my hearing loss is moderate but not from MM its' midtones and it hasn't changed in last 3 years while on AV's
I have had two wisdom teeth out at different times - one on my bad side and one on my good (ish) side. Like you I was very anxious about how it would affect my MM but I suffered no ill effects at all! I didn't want to be put out so my dentist agreed to numb me up and do it while I was awake. I didn't feel a thing and the same dentist has also given me several root canal treatments since - also pain free and with no adverse effect on the MM. I just concentrated on breathing deeply and calmly through my nose all the way through it. Good luck with your treatment. Hopefully you can find an understanding dentist who will do things your way, and in a way that reduces any anxiety as much as poss.
