Has anyone switched and had a good result? My husband contacted Dr Gacek and this is what he has suggested I do, then maybe a steroid injection in my ear. Has anyone made this switch and gotten their symptoms under control again?
I had been on Acyclovir since July 2014 and feel it has helped control the severe vertigo attacks but I still deal with slight dizziness almost daily plus aural fullness in my right ear. Several months ago I switched to Valcyclovir but I could not tolerate it and it messed up my stomach so I went back on Acyclovir. A few weeks ago I reached out to Dr Gacek again and he suggested I try Famciclovir, 500 mg 3 times a day for 3 weeks then taper. I have now been on it for ten days and have not noticed any difference in symptoms. Still have some dizziness most days and ear pressure remains constant. Will continue to take Famciclovir for a few more weeks to see if any changes. In the meantime I am learning as much as possible about MAV as I think this may be a part of my daily dizziness.
I am not familar but believe it i worth a try. Even for "normal" medical issues (Meniere's IMO is not normal) different drugs for the same thing work different for each person.
Insurance got sorted out and I am starting Famvir tonight. Really hoping for more stable days. I *still* haven't had vertigo, just constant dizziness, fullness, etc. hoping for good days ahead. Will keep you updated.
I have watched food triggers with no improvement. How long did it take you to see results from avoiding triggers Vicki?
Many don't get relief from just food triggers. Have you seen the MAV flow chart I have posted several times? It shows what to do/take next if food triggers do not give one relief. It has several levels of what to do if the step before does not work.
Day 11 of famvir. The last three days have been an improvement over the last 5-6 weeks. Much more functional. Today, since about 3, my ear has been singing, ringing, buzzing. Sounds like bells/tones. I never really have tinnitus besides a low static. I am getting nervous bc I have never had such noises go on in my ear before. I must say though, my ear "feels" good. No pressure/fullness. Maybe the famvir doing something good (or bad if you're a virus)?
