Good read...but I'm sorry that it really pisses me off that money for Menieres is going anywhere but the USA.

I agree Bea but many diseases that are not had by a large percentage of the population get ignored :(

I think that because this disease is so random, not everyone finds relief with the "same" things make the studies less of a target for research. I think that like most doctors it is gotten to a point that everyone just believes "nothing more we can do". UGH. :'(

But they are trying in another country. Just pisses me off when US citizens are being treated like second class citizens.

Before this gets all political, I'll beg out. :)

I just read on the FDA site that in 2015 they approved 45 novel drugs for rare illnesses, so maybe there is hope for us if anyone finds what the cure is :(

I would guess if a cure or treatment is found in another country, the US will be clued in.

Don't be so sure. SERC (betahistine) is a successful Meniere's drug of choice in the rest of the world. But the US FDA simply prohibits its commercial sale in the US. The vinpocetine of my regimen is a Meniere's drug of choice in Russia and Eastern Europe, but virtually no American ENTs have ever heard of it or know of its significant therapeutic outcomes.

When "cures" or new treatments are discovered or proposed, the almost universal American response is that none of this could possibly be true. The guiding, limiting "fact" is that Meniere's disease is idiopathic. It's causes are both unknown and unknowable, so anything new or different, especially if from some lesser foreign medical community is summarily dismissed.

Dr. Gacek has documented a 90% treatment efficacy rate with his antiherpetic treatment protocol, here in the US. But only a minority of practitioners have ever heard of those results, and the majority who have simply dismiss the data and continue with their last-century routines and treatments.

The harsh reality is that modern American medicine is not interested in "cures" or new treatments; only in continuing to prescribe and administer protocols learned back in med school in the last century (which, in the case of surgical procedures are very lucrative, compared to the negligible rewards for writing out a prescription for, say, acyclovir).

Most Drs just take GUESSES when treating Menieres Symptoms such as a band-aid would and aren't interested in treating the cause.'
We all know about how hard it is to find Drs willing to even give out Antivirals despite evidence that they work for some people.
