Hey, guys, has anyone here heard of Metanx? My pcp prescribed this for me. It is primary for nerve dmg from diabetes. She had heard it could be used for ear nerve dmg from menieres. I recd my first bottle today so I will try it, the side effects seem minimal. I was wondering if my more informed members had used it or tried it?

I haven't, but thank you for posting. I'll be very interested to learn what happens. That makes so much sense to treat nerve damage from my current understanding, at least of what's happened to me.

I will let you know how it goes, it takes awhile before it starts helping....app 2 months, but I think it is worth a try!

Haven't heard of it but like the concept! AND like that your doctor is at least TRYING things!

Yes, I am very blessed to have a pcp like her! And she actually has several menieres patients and shares info.

Seems like it is a prescription form of folic acid, B6 and B12 intended to help repair nerve damage. Reading the flyer it says the difference is that the prescription form is "activated" folate which alot of bodies can't activate from OTC? Also doesn't say what the quantities of each ingredient are. But it has been my understanding that the body won't OD on any B vitamins that the body will just purge any excess. Not sure that is true but that is my belief. :D

    Thanks for sharing!!

Quick question - wonder if you had a baseline (as of now) hearing test to compare to in a few months?

I did some research on folic acid and folate when I started taking my b complex for my hair problem. Folic acid is a synthetic form of folate. and all the new info warn against folic acid and to replace it with folate. The studies show Folic acid doesn't metabolize completely and can be found in the blood in too much quantity from taking it and folate does not since its natural but folate is harder for the body to absorb.

The main ingredient is a folate but in the folic acid family. I just didn't want to type all of the letters and possibly mis-spell something so shortened it. LOL

B vitamins have been known to wire people up too much, so just keep as eye out for side effects.

Nicmger, no i have not had a hearing test in awhile, but it should be something to look into. My pcp said she had very good luck with her diabetes patients with this rx. my chiro yesterday said i should be on magnesium but gosh i take so many supplements now you wonder where to stop?

I do think it would be interesting to have the current hearing test and then evaluate after the 3 months or so. Then whatever you find out it is for sure and not something that a different doctor would claim is not a reality of improvement but more of a perception of improvement. For Magnesium, interesting is that for potassium levels to be balanced one typically needs to take a magnesium supplement too - wonder if the reverse is true? Wonder if your potassium is low and therefore your magnesium is as well??

I do "hear" you (from my good ear!!) about the supplements. For a while the number I was taking was overwhelming - and depressing!
