Apparently in addition to Menieres, BPPV, MAV, and probably something else I'm forgetting, I now may have otosclerosis. That is the thickening of those little bones in the ear that transmit sound to the nerve, so even though my nerve has healed a good bit from the AVs and that seems to be holding steady, I now may be losing hearing for this other reason. We won't really know for sure until I get another hearing test in 9-12 months, but there's not really another good explanation for why my air conductive hearing is so much worse than my bone conductive hearing. What's even worse is that it may be happening in my good ear as well. I don't think this is very common, as no one responded to my other post about this last month, but I want to post anyway so that anyone with the same issue can find me.
My otologist specializes in otosclerosis Surgery . Very positive outcome. How Did you find out you had that?
I had a hearing test that showed quite a difference in the bone conduction and air conduction hearing. My ENT said that is not typical of Meniere's. She had me have a CT scan to rule out bone thinning. Otosclerosis is the only other explanation, but they still won't say that is it for sure for another 9-12 months after I have another hearing test. However, when I look at my past hearing tests I can see that the separation between those two hearing measures has been increasing for some time. I can see it starting to happen in my better ear as well, which is very discouraging. My ENT told me that the surgery is not recommended for people with Meniere's, because the risks are higher. Do you have both otosclerosis and Meniere's? Was the very positive outcome on surgery for you?
Not that I know of , I have been diagnosed With mm but my doctors expertise is in Otosclerosis . Sometimes I think once They feel its mm they attribute every symptom To mm. Hope you feel better
That's funny that you're having the experience of being told everything is MM. I'm having the opposite. I have been told I have MM, MAV, BPPV, eustachian tube dysfunction, and now possibly otosclerosis, too. !!! I really do believe at least the first three because the treatments for all of them have helped.
For the MAV I eliminate triggers. For me it was mostly triggered by eye strain. I'm 48 and have been at the age where the near vision goes. Getting the right glasses (progressives and separate progressives for the computer in my case) made a huge difference. I also stopped drinking black tea.
