After having several pretty good days (other than my usual light dizziness) I took my Lysine and went to bed about 11 pm last night. Sleeping soundly on my right side (mm side) I suddenly was jarred awake screaming for my husband to help me while I felt like I was caught up in a tornado funnel. I was twirling so hard I was completely out of control. Started getting really hot (it was only 68 in the house) then in seconds my body was shaking with cold. Hubby got me water and Ativan which I haven't used in months. It only lasted less than 5 minutes but scared the hell out of me. I settled back down but was afraid to move a muscle the rest of the night for fear of triggering it again. I believe it was BPPV and will try the correction maneuvers today or call the pt to have him help me with it. Pretty scarey stuff. The good news....didn't vomit!
I have had that happen exactly as you described and reacted same way It is God awful to be awakened that way. Sounds like BPPV which is good in the fact its easily fixed. Just a thought for you Sharon, did your light headedness start when you started lysine? I got light headed on my first pill of lysine and wont take it again. It is a side effect some get. I asked my pharmacist about it and he said he has heard that side effect before from lysine.
Thanks Vicki, I have been on Lysine since March or April 2015. Hard to remember what it was like before. I increased my foes from 3000 to 4500 3 months ago hoping to get better control over the daily dizziness. I will cut that back down and see what happens. I take so many pills I rattle when I walk! I have an appointment this pm with the pt to help with the BPPV. Now I'm just back to full ears and really tired from taking the Ativan I think. I was off that crap for almost a year but I would have taken the whole bottle last night to stop the spinning. I was too dizzy to get to the bottle though so I took the 1mg hubby brought me and I think it helped.
That sounds awful and frightening. So sorry you had to go through that. I have stopped vertigo with the at home Epley Maneuver. Maybe get some coaching on that so you'll know you have that possibility.
