hi, i got so frustrated tonight, that i thought i'd check around and see if there were any support groups for meniere's; there seems to be one for just about everything else. i found this and thought i'd join a group of others like me since i know absolutely no one else and it's really frustrating sometimes. i take several martial arts classes to help with my balance, some days it's good; some days i couldn't pass a road side drunk test. but tonight was different, i couldn't remember something i'd done just 20 minutes earlier, not once, not twice, but three or four times. it wasn't clicking and i was getting frustrated. i'm not moving up like my classmates are and it's kind of depressing; and i don't like the feeling. i get something like a brain fog (can't remember squat); but i'd really like to know if anyone else gets them as well. or am i just losing my mind and on the verge of dementia (i'm in my 50s).
ok, rant over....for now. thanks for reading....

Hi Laurie, brain fog is a symptom of Meniere's. Many of us experience it with having Meniere's.

when you can look around the forums and its database they have a wealth of information. Ask any questions you may have.

Many of us get symptom relief from antivirals. I have been symptom free for 3 years since I started taking acyclovir.

Welcome to the forum Laurie. Sorry you are here but with your symptoms it is the best place to be. As Vicki says there is a lot of reading here. I know that one particular part of the JOH regimen ( you will see ref to JOH everywhere) is supposed to be beneficial for brain fog. I think most people over 50 can suffer temporarily from memory loss. It happens to me. I wouldn't worry about it.

Yes. the vinopocetine in my regimen (below) really helps turn off brain fog:

thanks everyone. it didn't occur to me about brain fog being a part of meniere's until today. are there doctors that can help answer questions and alleviate fears of 'is it brain fog, or is it the start of something else'? i was really discouraged yesterday and depressed and that hasn't happened in awhile. people tell me it's all about the crystals; but my doctor tells me mine are fine, it's the excess of fluid (which at times i can actually 'feel' in my ear). how do i answer people when they insist 'my crystals are out of alignment and i need to have them aligned' when i know it's not? does anyone else lose their concentration, or read material for work or something else and forget it a few days later; but then can recall it sometime after that?

p.s. i've had tinnitus in my ears since i was in my late teens; the episodes of vertigo and other stuff started when i was in my late 20s.

dislodged crystals in the ear is BPPV which can be easily treated, but that's not Meniere's but BPPV is common with people who have Meniere's. A doctor or vestibular therapist can do a simple test to see if it is dislodged crystals.

If your doctor has done that you can just tell these people I was tested for BPPV and its negative.

You can search the forums for brain fog and read the posts. Also Bea started a thread recently called cognition stories.

Brain fog is definately part of Meniere's..... I get it quiet alot... along with fatigue..and nausea.... The best thing I can do to stave this off is get enough sleep and watch my diet.

Welcome - this forum is a lifesaver.

Thanks, Vicki. That will help a lot. Now if i can just remember it ;D I was tested with a while back with a whole lot of things, including air being blown in my ears; I usually only get vertigo when I've got a fan blowing in my ear. Which is a double-edged sword, because a fan blowing on my face is sometimes the only thing that happens to help me when I'm getting a spell.

Nickyschick; I'm glad to know I'm not the only one, everyone that's answered has really helped me to know it's common. The frustrating part of it is kn owing and not being able to do much about it at the time. When it happens, I've started getting P.O.'d because I just keep trying and trying to remember. I'm going to talk to my doctor, because the fatigue is also an issue and it may or may not be related; I'm not sure (for me).

Thanks to both of you for your help and advice.

Along with Lipoflavanoids that I take for the tinnitus ( def helps me) - I also take 2000 mg of B-12 -- One in the morning with two Lipos and one in the afternoon with two Lipos ( then one Lipo at night) - it has absolutley helped with my energy levels.... If you haven't already have your Dr do a blood panel and check your vitamin levels....

I can't take it, it's got niacin and I'm highly allergic to niacin. When I next see her, I'll ask her to check for the vitamin levels, we know some; but not sure about others. I've been taking B-6 and that does not add any energy at all. So, I'll look into B-12.

Yes I too get this all the time. I can't think clearly and I'm so forgetful...also I can't think clearly and I'm so forgetful ;D

I wonder if Lysine helps it. I recently tried the Lysine compononent of the John of Ohio regime but sadly had to stop taking it after about a week as it made me extremely light headed and I felt quite ill with it. On the plus side after a few days of taking it I felt as if a light turned on in my brain. I could think really clearly and just felt more alive than I have in years. My family also noticed a big difference in me mentally.
Sadly this 'awake' feeling soon wore off once I stopped taking the Lysine. I don't know how, but I'm sure the Lysine switched me on somehow.
