Until I can see my Neuorotologists in Feb I decided to give the antivirals another shot. Before I had my shunt surgery 7 years ago I tried most of the traditional and non-traditional treatments including JOH' s regime and Acyclovir with no luck. I know I have really good results with Valtrex for other medical issues so my PCP prescribed 1000mg Valtrex 3x day so we will see what happens.

You have to keep in touch with me to see how that goes.
I'm on a new insurance plan and the Valtrex may be new option for me.

Almost 3 years on Acyclovir and my dosage had to be upped recently to 2400 mg. per day from 12 mg. per day.

I'm not very symptomatic but I'm not like I was. Right now I know I have menieres when for awhile I lived like I didn't.

I don't like now and I don't know if the higher dosage will get me back to where I was. My anxiety is through the roof. We all know that doesn't help but we also know we all keep stressing anyway.

A couple of thoughts. First, take the highest dose until you get relief or six months pass. The three week period is not enough for some folks. Second, try to build up a reserve in case your doctor retires or leaves, and you need a couple of months to find a new one.

I too am restarting antivirals, Valtrex specifically. Scott, what dosage did you/do you take? My prescription is for 3,000 mg per day, but my doc will let me continue for 6 months or more if needed.

    Thanks!

I took 3000 mg for three weeks. But several folks on here have reported success only after many months at that dose.

If you're lucky enough to have a doctor scripting you 3000 mg for six months, then stockpile the meds if you don't need that dose for that long. You never know if your doc will leave or retire.

You have a great dr! Not only to agree to the antivirals but to be willing to keep you at the "load" dose for so long if necessary!
