I need new hearing aids. I had Oticon behind the ear, they were just okay. I met with an audibel rep today. I know I know you should always go to an audiologist but I have been to several and I have to say I liked this guy better than any of the audiologists I have been to. I am hesitant about the brand because they don't seem to be very popular. What brands are people using. What brands and styles have worked for you and what brands have not. Before I throw $6,000 down for a pair of aids I needs some advise from people that are not trying to sell me anything. I have about 50-60% hearing loss. Anybody in a similar boat?
Do a Google search and read the reviews on Audibel and other hearing aids. I would not recommend using someone who isn't an audiologist. ReSound hearing aids worked best for me especially when my hearing loss became severe. Best regards, Jim
I have been using a Starkey OtoLens for the last few years. I only have it on the left side, which has more damage. I love it. It fits inside the canal and very few people know I even use one. It runs about $3,000 and took a few sessions with the audiologist to get it right because they are custom molded to your ear canal. It also takes a week or so to acclimate to using it before your inner ear stops hurting. However, once you're properly fitted and accustomed to using it the aid is amazing.
I would recommend finding a good audiologist. Then test out several different aids until you find the ones that works best for you. I have an Oticon, mine is considered "entry level" and it works pretty well. It was a good choice for me as it was the most comfortable. Working with the audiologist she tweeked the settings nuerous times over the initial few months. Also switched out the domes for smaller ones - that not only made the aid even MORE comfortable it increased the hearing as well. Most audiologists will let you trial several different ones for you to find your right fit.
starky is by far the best. I went cheap and got Costco... I do not recommend them unless you have to get them due to cost.
