Hello everyone. I am looking for some advice. I have been thinking that the bad dizziness and louder tinnitus are side effects of the acyclovir. My story: I am 53, male, 168 lb. I started to have some symptoms that might be related to Meniere. My right ear uses to hurt very often. It is something that comes and goes. It has happened during the last two years. A light sense of fullness and short periods of dizziness were also present. I mean very short periods of dizziness (Lasting about two seconds). Never have/had a vertigo attack. I have had some degree of hyperacusis as I feel very uncomfortable in noisy places. It is beyond normal. I am the only one in my family that feels the urge of getting away from a particular place. I do not get pain due to loud noises, just very uncomfortable. I started to loss hearing on my right side. Once in a while I get/got a bad headache. I treat myself with over the counter drugs. I have a long history of nasal allergies and sinus. My brother has had all these symptoms for about 20 years. No solution so far for him. About three months ago I got a persistent spot of something that I believe was a herpes outbreak. It stayed with me probably for about one month. At that time i did not pay too much attention to it. It went away by itself. The one-inch-diameter spot was located near my right shoulder. About two months ago things started to get worse for me: I became aware of visual issues. Momentary Zigzag lines at the corner of my visual field. Light flashes were also present. I am not sure about occurring headaches during or about the time visual issues appear. I mean, i am not sure about the headaches/visual issues connection. I have had some episodes of brain fog. I felt really confused-weird during the brain fog event. Tinnitus in both ears also started about two months ago. It has been with me during this period of time. It makes me crazy. During the last two months two severe anxiety attacks also occurred. Two weeks ago I started the acyclovir program: 2400 mg per day. There was not any evident effect of the Acyclovir for about two weeks. Then, Yesterday I woke up feeling extremely dizzy and having a louder tinnitus. It is bad Never had them that bad. They stayed with me all day long. Am I on the right track? Is it Meniere? Should I stop taking acyclovir? I have been thinking that the bad dizziness and louder tinnitus are side effects of the acyclovir. I appreciate any comment/thought that you may have. Thank you very much!!
Hey salas, how do you know the one inch spot is herpes? Did you get it checked by a doctor? I want you do something ok? Go on google.com and type lyme disease bite, then click the Images option at the top and look at the images. Did your bite look like that?
Hello Prozeal No, I am not sure that the spot was herpes. Spot never got checked by a doctor. I saw several MD but they never considered that possibility. I just suspected it :-[ I did what you suggested. I googled: lyme disease bite. Unfortunately, I do not remember the description of the spot. It was located on a place that was difficult for me to see (between my shoulder and my throat). I guess I saw it once on the mirror. I used to touch it, so I knew that it stayed there for probably one month. Let me tell you that I just remember that about one week ago I removed a bug-like thing from that area. Any comment/thought would be appreciated. Thank you very much!!
Hi Salas, The reason I asked if it looked like the ones in the picture is because lyme disease can cause meniere's like symptoms and more. When you started saying you were seeing zig zags, and feeling confused and such along with a one inch bite and now you're saying you removed a bug like thing from the same area. It makes me think that you may have had a lyme disease bite. In which case I would strongly recommend you visit your doctor once again and ask to be tested for lyme disease. The good news is if this is the case it can be cured with antibiotics and you could go symptom free, the sooner its detected and treated the better, so timing is important. Did you spend time in the woods or live in the woods as well during the time you got that bite? Best of luck!
Hello Prozeal I will talk to my Doctor about the possibility of lyme disease. I live in an urban area. I did not spend any time in the woods recently Thank you very much for your help Salas
You have several symptoms of MAV, check out the link in my signature for info on it. If you do have MM as well, and it is caused by and HSV antivirals can make you feel worse before better. About half of us have both MM and MAV.
