I read about vit c cleanse on this forum and I decided to give it a go. Last week I reached my bowel tolerance at 30 grams which is quite a lot I believe. After that I tried to take 75% of the total of ascorbate needed to induce the flush. I was not consistent and quickly went down below the 75% which is not recommend. My ear got fuller than usual and during an attack I vomited which had not happened since I have been on acyclovir. I quickly increased vit c intake, had another flush at 30 grams and this time I have stuck to the 75%. Today another attack came and I am wondering whether the ascorbate flush has had a negative effect on my well being as overall I have been feeling worse after it. is it possible that high doses of vit c prevented acyclovir from doing its job? Or perhaps it was just a coincidence!?
Many folks get worse with antivirals before getting better. It's believed to be the virus fightinG back before it is beaten down.
Scott Tom, I read your story on getting well on antivarals. It did take a while. Did relief come gradually eg vertigo was less frequent , less severe or was there one day when it all went away just like that? I am aware that patience is the key, however when you don't really see results you question the therapy.
Hi Marta, I got better gradually. I thought i was all better after 3 weeks, but that's because i didn't even know what 100% was anymore. Had been suffering so long that it didn't click for me. I was just happy to have the vertigo stop. I realized after 6 months how much better i was compared to 3 weeks. I think i stopped making gains after about 9-10 months. Now i feel 100%. I have zero symptoms and my hearing has fully returned. If you cannot get Valtrex, then try Vitamin C with Lysine. They both have antiviral effects. It can't hurt to use all 3 as well. Be consistent with your doses. You must get to at least 80% of bowel tolerance each day or it is not effective. You'll find that your bowel tolerance will yo-yo for awhile until the virus is completely beaten back.
I would be so happy if vertigo disappeared! So far frequency of attacks has changed(every 4 days) and severity. Nevertheless I am still bed bound during an attack. I have been taking lysine everyday and now high does of vit c. Thank you for your response Scott tom! I am happy for you and your vertigo free life!
Just keep at it. Keep the C as high as you can stand. Take 3000 mg of lysine. Try to get Valtrex from a doctor. Any doctor can prescribe it. It can be prescribed for shingles or genital herpes as well, both of which are easy to fake. Doctors almost never check old records from other doctors. I have no problem lying to a doctor to get medicine that i need.
