Sunday nights on Discovery, does anyone watch this? A man and a woman---no clothes, no food and no water are dropped off in some God forsaken part of the world to survive for 21 days. They're given a map and on day 21, if they make it until then, they have to hike, swim or paddle on a raft they've made, to their extraction point. Last night they were in the Alabama backwoods, but that's one of the tamer places they've filmed. Each person is allowed to take one item, which is usually some type of fire starter and a knife or machete. Last night they shared the backwoods with 50 species of snakes, including timber rattlers, along with black widow spiders, alligators, bears and assorted other creatures. They found a couple of snakes to eat, and a possum. After a couple bites of possum, they decided it tasted "diseased" and threw it out. They stayed the whole 21 days. He lost 25 pounds and she lost 24. Would you do it?
In a heartbeat... Providing, that is, I could take 2 cartons of smokes and get my meds every day. The "Naked" part is stupid, but then it's a "reality" show. They'd never take me though..old, out-of-shape, etc., but then, I know how to not only survive, but thrive in most environments. Depending where they dropped us off at, odds are it would be more of a 3 week vacation than all the suffering and crap they show people going through. But then again, it's a TV show. I've actually only watched bits and pieces of it, mostly because I can't handle all the bitching and moaning over how hungry they are, and of course, their boo-boo's from sitting in dirt with the bugs.
Naked part doesn't faze me, going hungry, spider, dirt , bugs, all stuff to deal with, but snakes? Seriously, all common sense is gone. If snakes are involved, not gonna happen! Interesting topic, Cheryl.
I watch it. I love the discovery Channel shows along with History Channel and HGTV. Would I do it? Not sure, I cracking one if the wind blows on the wrong direction much less spending a week on an island with a naked woman 24/7. Good show though.
But, Bea, on the show they'd blur out your lady parts and only show your butt! LOL I'm with you Maggie. Snakes are the creepiest things on earth. They scare me to death! Last night they killed and ate a timber rattler. I know a person could eat anything if they're hungry enough, but I can't ever imagine eating snake. One time a couple found and stayed in a bat filled cave. Don't think I'd do that, either. Sometimes the man and woman don't get along, at all, and spend the whole time fighting, along with everything else they're going through. Also, either one can tap out at any time, leaving the other all alone. It really gets to them mentally.
On one episode didn't a woman catch fish with her beaver? I don't have a problem being naked. I'd wanna be naked and warm tho.
Lol, Imagine bug bites on your boobs, and bugs and snakes crawling around your lady parts while sleeping...hell no.
I think I could handle being in a cave with bats. I've often been referred to as an old bat, so why not! I've never seen the show so I wonder. Do the man and woman know each other IRL, or are they strangers. you can sure see how the circumstances would be just as strenuous on a personal mentally as they would physically, maybe even moreso. Maggie
They're strangers. They are driven close to the spot where they'll meet, each in a separate vehicle. There, they get naked and each starts walking to the meeting spot. After they meet they start looking for a place to build a shelter and start looking for a water source. I wish you could watch it, Maggie.
Oh wow, then I can surely see how intimidating that could make one feel. They start out pretty vulernable. We don't watch much TV so our cable package is pretty basic and we don't get Discovery. The CRTC has mandated they have to skinny packages for 25 dollars. Then we are supposed to be able buy single channels for reasonable. So maybe then, but I think it's going to be a fiasco, so maybe not. I haven't watched Survivor in about 8 years. Maybe I will start next week, I used to like it but then I got jaded. We just aren't tv people, Cheryl
My husband works third shift and leaves at 7 p.m. That's why I watch so much tv. As soon as it warms up and stays light longer I'll be outside more puttering in the yard, watering flowers, going for my evening walk. I'm really looking forward to that.
