Hello I wanted to know is this possible from using antivirals for a long time . I want to see if my doc could prescribe antivirals but, this is a concern of mines. My balance has gotten so bad and my affected year is full everyday. This has truly ruined my life.
There are long term studies done on antivirals and very little resistance and very little side effects. You should be cautious if you already have a kidney issue and tell your dr who is prescribing the AV. But other than that just get your blood levels tested 2 or 3 times a year. I have been on acyclovir for over 3 years and so far so good in way of having no MM symptoms and my kidney and liver values are good.
My understanding is that liver and kidney damage is rare. People with AIDS (HIV positive?) have been taking anti-virals for decades. It is important to take the pills with lots of water. The side effect rate seems to be very low for these pills. We are lucky about that. I hope they help you. They have helped many of us.
Believe that what I read is that if someone is more predisposed to have liver or kidney issues than the a/v could increase it. But easily it is something that your dr could pull current blood work and then monitor every 6 months for safety.
