Ok so we are human and sometimes we might inadvertently have too much sodium either voluntarily or involuntarily.
So how to 'fix' this? Give coconut water a try. Why coconut water?

Coconut water is very high in potassium, typically a 500ml can, can contain nearly 700mg of potassium. What does this have to do with salt?
Well potassium actually offsets the effects of sodium because in fact the body requires 2x more potassium than salt consumed. I have been doing this everytime I feel like or know I've had too much salt and I think it works.

The important thing is when choosing which brand to buy, look at the Nutrition facts and get the one that states the Potassium amount in each can, then look at the sugar content and get the one that has the lower sugar content and you should be good to go. Sugar is no good and can hold water in itself but typically it has about 23grams of sugar per 1 can which is what I usually get, some have more.

Also I don't chug the whole thing all at once, I sip at it for about 5-7 times. You don't want to chug it all once because it's never good to do anything drastic.

Here are other foods with high potassium if you prefer to eat rather than drink

Potatoes: around 1,600mg per large potato (varies slightly depending on the type)
Beet greens: 1,309mg per 1 cup cooked.
    Avocados: 690mg per avocado.
Swiss chard: 961mg per 1 cup cooked
Plantains: 930mg per 1 cup cooked.
Bananas: 422mg per 1 medium banana

Let me know if it helps you.

Just to clarify, I do finish the can the same day and what I meant was it takes me 5-7 sips to finish it.

Also this doesn't meant you should go ham on the salt now, it's kind of a tool in your toolbox thing. Wish all of us the best, I'm really tired of this crap disease.
Please if anything works for you do not disappear, come back and share it we all need to help each other out. General rant.

Thanks so much, prozeal, this is really helpful.

I usually have a banana about every day, but we ran out just before this bad stint started and getting to the store got delayed. I wonder if lack of bananas combined with the excessive salt is what made this so bad. I read your post on my phone at lunch time. I'd already had a banana, and I went and ate half an avocado after that. I am doing a little better.

My pleasure bytheBay, I'm glad you are feeling better.

Yes the lack of banana and having the salty food in the restaurant definitely had to have contributed.
