I had my injection done today. I saw a different ENT than last week and I asked again about antiherpetics. The answer was negative which did not surprise me. After a short consultation I had the injection done. It didn't hurt at all . I was told to lie down for two hours after the procedure which apparently makes it more effective. After one hour and a half I felt funny in my head, kind of dizzy. When I got home a full attack came, pretty nasty. I haven't had such a bad one for two months or so. It hasn't gone yet, knowing my inner ear it will not let me relax until at least after 12 hours. Before the injection I did take into consideration the fact that it might be not effective. But making things worse? I cannot come to terms with it! Has anybody experienced or heard anything similar? I am feeling very down, no hope again

    Marta,
that is too bad, but I don't think un common. When you are able read this link

    http://www.dizziness-and-balance.com/treatment/it-steroids.htm

It mention short term vertigo as a side effect. Hope you feel better soon.

Thank you for the link. As nystagmus is gone now, I can read and type. I hope that my vertigo episode was a side effect. I shall find out in the nearest future.

    Marta,

Before I had dex injections I hadn't had vertigo from that ear. My problem at the time was severe hearing loss, so the reason I got the injections was aimed at restoring hearing. One week after my last injection I had to practically be carried out of work and be driven home. It was a horrible vertigo attack and lasted about six hours. I've had a VNS in the other ear, so I knew for sure the vertigo was coming from the ear with the dex injections. Vertigo attacks came pretty often after that, as well as episodes of nystagmus.

    Coincidence? I'll never know.

Cheryl , I hope you are vertigo free now and your hearing has improved. I know I have to be patient . How much longer? That's another question. Thank you Cheryl for sharing your experience with me.

You're welcome, Marta. Yes, be patient. I hope the injections help you.

Unfortunately, I'm not vertigo free and my hearing is lousy, with profound hearing loss in one ear and severe hearing loss in the other. I'm close to qualifying for a cochlear implant.

I am so sorry you are not feeling any better Cheryl! I am genuinely sorry! I hope everything goes well with your implant.
If things don't go well with me I am ready for destructive treatments including laby. I just cannot stand life full of vertigo. Sorry about complaining but it has been a bad day for me.

Marta, the SAME thing happened to my husband. The day of his first intertympanic membrane injection , he felt the symptoms coming as soon as he got to the car. The second time he also had vertigo and loud tinnitus the day after and he couldn't help but thing it had something to do with the injections. He continued on the oral steroids instead of getting a third injection.

Titanium31, after each injection was it just one attack each time or more? Did they bring a relief eventually??

    Marta,

Don't ever apologize for what you think is complaining. First of all, it's not complaining. You're looking for answers and seeking relief. Living with MM is not a fun way to live.

I've had MM for over 40 years, so I'm used to it. After 20 years of having it in my left ear, I had VNS surgery and everything was grand until I got it in the other ear. I get up every day hoping for a good day and if it's not, well, there's always tomorrow. Unless I'm actually having a vertigo attack, I try to stay active, even if it's just working on a quilt, making a scrapbook page or going for a walk. That way I always feel like I've accomplished something each day.

Keep asking questions. Keep searching until you find what works for you. Hope you have a better day tomorrow.

The injection did give me some vertigo
A week after each one thankfully half a valium
Stopped it. I wonder if its because it keeps fluid in the ear
and don't drain. It did take away the tinitus
And head presure for a while .

I had 3 injections over 8 days and did not have any attacks. My hearing has improved slightly. This disease is so random (what causes it, what puts it in remission) it is hard to know if the injections did anything.
