Inasmuch as virtually all herpes viruses can be suppressed with lysine or antiherpetic drugs (acyclover, et al.), determining the viral species serves no useful purpose. It's not important.

I agree with John, if an antiviral or lysine suppresses Meniere's symptoms it could be any of the HSV's that bring on the symptoms. If you really wanted to know you could always get tested for them and see which ones you test positive for.

keep in mind if you every had chicken pox that's an HSV too, there are 8 human ones. So chances are you will test positive for one of them, since the majority of the population has an HSV latent in them.

That is why i asked which herpes strain causes Maniere' s. The other thing is my doctor said if you opened the faces of everyone that died 94% would have the Bells Paulsy virus, but don't get it. The same.is true he thinks for Maniere' s. My point is cause and effect is very important and apparently difficult to determine. There are things we just don't know. I am starting on the Monolauren. I have no choice. An praying a lot. This such an awful disease. Said by so many and true.

I think the difference is why so many people have an HSV but not all have Meniere's is it depends what nerve the HSV attaches itself too. HSV is now being linked to Alzheimer's and many other diseases like fibromyalgia. HSV is found in the brain, stomach, lings etc etc.
If it attaches to a nerve in the inner ear chances are it brings on MM symptoms.

My opinion is the HSV could be HSV1 Zoster or any other HSV if it attaches to a nerve in the inner ear.

I think that the virus in question may be even an still unknown strain

    Rumsfeld stated:

Reports that say that something hasn't happened are always interesting to me, because as we know, there are known knowns; there are things we know we know. We also know there are known unknowns; that is to say we know there are some things we do not know. But there are also unknown unknowns – the ones we don't know we don't know. And if one looks throughout the history of our country and other free countries, it is the latter category that tend to be the difficult ones.[1]

It is much the same with Meniere’s.

Just about everyone on the planet will come into contact with a herpes type virus at some point. That's why asking to get tested - Which is not an everyday kind of test in the first place - isn't routinely done. Had a cold sore? You're going to have the antibodies. Chickenpox? you're going to have the antibodies. You might not even have the virus present but if it ever was flagged by your immune system the antibodies will be present.

... or so I was told by a doctor a while back. I'll gladly take a correction. :)
