Hello all, I finally got my prescription of Valtrex to combat my aural fullness in the left ear. My doctor only prescribed 2000 mg/day. He said 3000 mg/day is too high. But in this forum, the recommended dosage is 3000 mg/day. If I only suffer from aural fullness (no dizziness so far *knock on wood*) does anyone know whether 2000 mg/day is sufficient for aural fullness relief? I am also on JOH regimen (3000 mg/day lysine + everything else on his regimen).
Aural fullness is a major symptom for me. 2000 mg/day has not worked. I have only been able to get down to 2500 mg/day and have it continue to work over a prolonged period. I do think that is unusual and most people can get to a maintenance dose of 1000 mg/day, but I would want to start at 3000/day to have it be a fair test. I believe that Dr. Gacek's paper is the only published work about this, and it says 3000 mg/day to start, so I'm not sure why your doctor is making that conclusion. You might show him the paper (again?) and ask why he's suggesting something different.
I was on 3x1000 for two months; then 2x1000 for one month; since then 1000mg. Is your prescription for 2000 ongoing? If so, you could "frontload" to 3x1000 for the first 4 weeks per typical protocol and then start to taper down. Just a suggestion.
