It is a beautiful spring day outside and i am inside going crazy with my used to be good ear. I no longer hardly have any dizziness since starting acyclovir in January. When i first started it i had a freight train going thru my head but everything got better.....dizziness just slight...no vertigo and hearing back to normal, about a month ago my right ear started getting full and for the past 3 weeks my hearing is down about 30__50% some days not as bad as others. I know some of it is probably due to allergies and i finally took Vicki's advice to heart and i am finally watching my lysine vs arginine levels....started this about a week ago. Today i started my 1st dose of monolaurin supplement that was listed in Lulu's message boards . I was already taking monolaurin capsules i had ordered from Amazon but i inderstand the Lauricidin brand is the way to go. I am on the full JOH regimen, i just recently added vitamin d-3 and k2 i take 4 800mg acyclovir/day. But today i feel my eardrum is going to burst it has never felt this bad. Has anyone had their eardrum burst from this disease? Sorry guys it is kind of a pity party for me today . I should be at a grandchild event today but instead just being miserable and no one understands it like you guys. Thanks for listening.
That feeling is pretty common. I had it for years. Your eardrum is not likely to burst. In fact, your ear drum is located nowhere near the inner ear, so it shouldn't be connected. It's probably a nerve firing off wild signals. Btw, the symptoms often get worse before they get better if you just started anti-virals.
Allergy season is known to exacerbate Meniere's symptoms. You might want to try an ear friendly allergy medication, and a saline nasal spray to keep the allergens from staying in your nasal passages. Also starting the lauricidin can make you feel worse in the beginning due to die off effect. So go slow with it, it should pass. You may also have an ear infection or sinus infection. Just some thoughts to consider. I hope you feel better quickly!
I haven't had an eardrum burst from MM, but it has happened twice from ear infections maybe exacerbated by allergies. You could try putting some heat (I use either the side of a tea mug or a folded wash cloth with hot water in it) on the area just in front of the ear (toward your cheek). I find that very soothing and it brings heat to the area which I think helps it heal. Good wishes to you.
Thank you all, dont think its an ear sinus infection i just got thru w a round of antibiotucs. I had to have a back tooth pulled from an old bridge now itis just healing in prep for an implant. Blythe bay will try heat and Vicki will definitely stay with the saline spray. Vicki, you have mentioned before in past you increased your acyclovir during allergy season. How much did you increase?
Also random ?, i noticed that most dairy vetter in lysine than arginine, but havent i read somewhere that dairy not good for menieres?
Some people think that dairy increases the thickness of the fluids in the sinuses. I have never researched it. It seems some feel very strongly that is so, and others are sure that's not true. At the worst of dealing with this disease my TCM (traditional Chinese medicine) practitioner recommended I cut out cow dairy to keep the fluids moving in my sinuses and ear. I also cut out gluten at the same time. Normally, I research anything hugely before I do it, especially something big like that, but in this case I was desperate and just did it. She said it was okay to have other kinds of dairy, and I enjoy goat milk, goat yogurt, and goat and sheep cheeses very much. Before those dietary changes whenever I got sick my nose would get so stuffed I couldn't clear it. That hasn't happened since. I believe that is because of eliminating the cow dairy, but I don't know for sure. I did notice goat milk is high in lysine, too, which is great.
Vicki mentioned an ear friendly allergy medicine. Could you be more specific please? I wasn't aware that some allergy medicine is better for ears than others. Thanks.
some meds are ototoxic, I don't take any OTC allergy meds, but many on here do they are better to tell you which ones works well with having MM.
The same thing was happening to me and allergy season is in full swing. My OTO advised and OTC allergy medication and after 2 days I felt better.
nroper I increase by one pill, since I'm on acyclovir and take 800 mg a day I increase to 1200 mg. If I need more during allergy season I take 1600 mg. It depends on how my symptoms are. But so far this season I have not needed to increase yet.
