If you are/were on antivirals and they worked, did they maintain your hearing?

What's happened to your hearing in your MM ear since being on antivirals-did it stay the same, improve, or worsen? Thanks.

Improved dramatically. Both in hearing loss and distortion. My hearing is now in the normal range again and I am free of tinnitus.

Deadeye-sorry to hear about your symptoms returning! It is a bad allergy season, so perhaps that it part of the problem, and if so, maybe it will be temporary!

While devising my Meniere's Treatment Regimen (over several years in the late 90s), the disease permanently took out the hearing in my left ear. It will never be recovered. I've been listening solely from my right ear since the turn of the century.

But the lysine, the major component of the regimen that stops herpes virus replication, has prevented the disease from moving to my still-good right ear. 14 yrs of good hearing in the right ear, with none in my Meniere's left ear.

Which tells me that the "loss" of hearing from hydrops does not always kill the hair cells.
OTs seem to disagree on this point.

If antivirals work for you, how long do you have to stay on them?

I stayed on them about 6 months with a gap at three months. Since then, I have taken them for about a month several times.

Anne, I have been on Antivirals for over a year and have not had vertigo since starting them. I intend to stay on a maintenance does of acyclovir indefinitely barring no complications.
