Sorry, I forgot to ask this in my previous post I just made. Isn't there a test that can determine the percentage of balance or functionality in the affected ear is left?
Are you referring to VNG? http://www.nationaldizzyandbalancecenter.com/services/balance-lab-testing/videonystagmography/
Just a note, after my last vertigo episode, I had hypotonic balance sense in my right ear. After a few months on Acyclovir and a part of JOH regimen at the time, the balance came back to normal. What I mean is that the balance can be recovered...
I sure hope so for myself. I was a klutz before I got Meniere's. I didn't need any interference in that department.
Speaking of VNG....I don't know about anyone else here but I simply could not get through it. I tried it several years ago and didn't get through the warm air portion of the test without getting violently ill for hours afterwards. So, I figured it was worth another try. Sure enough, the same thing almost happened again. I did not actually get sick, but knew it would have reached that point. I got through the cold air, but KNOWING that I was spinning and yet not able to see what was going on due to the black goggles that I had on remains one of the most uncomfortable experiences I've ever gone through. Making it worse was the test administrator's attempts at diversion by asking me all sorts of stuff..."name as many professional baseball teams as you can"...or vegetables...or...whatever. I think that all just made it worse. So I told her I did not wish to continue. I still am not convinced that I don't suffer from BPPV rather than meniere's. The doctor claims that BPPV can be ruled out, but I'm not sure at all.
