I'm currently seeing a ENT for my MM, but I see some have appointments with Neurologists. Which specialist can offer the best advise on treatment.
Gary, I think the specialist you want to see is a neurotologist, not neurologist. They are more specialized than an ENT. Maggie
Honestly, in my opinion, the "best" doctor is the one that you have a relationship with that you trust and who will LISTEN to you. One who is open minded. Too many of the specialists have pre-concieved notions of what works or doesn't and will not look at other options. Even those same ones that "don't have anything to offer" will negate anything you bring up to them. Find a doctor to try the anti-virals - full protocol. You will know in about 6 months if it helps you. That, in my opinion, is more important than "which" doctor.
thanks, missed the spelling, thought members were talking about a neurologist. I feel my ENT also runs the neurotologist clinic I visit so probably in the right hands. He has OK'd anti virals (Vaclovir ) and been going 4 months on full dose and still having a couple full on vertigo attacks a months, hoping to go 4 weeks before going down to lower dose, also on full JOH for 5 months and both have giving reduced vertigo attacks over the time. Seeing ENT next week to give him a progress s on how its all going
Have you explored the possibility that you have other conditions contributing to your vertigo as well as the MM? Many of us have MAV (Migraine Associated Vertigo) and BPPV as well.
Having MAV as well has crossed my mind and I'm looking at the MAV diet and cutting out some of the foods it contains, already on low salt diet. I need to read up on posts to understand MAV a little more, I will read Vicki's link, hoping only MM and no MAV.
Oh there are a whole heck of a lot of different kind of doctors we go see but yes going to see a neurologist is never a bad idea to have them look at your MRI. There are also vestibular neurologists that specialize in dizzy disorders. My ENT recommended for me to see a Neuro because I am not classic menieres. I have seen an oto, several ENTs, 2 neurologists, immunologist, neurotologist, functional Doctor, 2 chiropractors, 1 vestibular chiropractor, allergist and dentist. For this condition. Go where they listen and let you be your own advocate. I definitely felt better after having a Neuro look at my MRI and cat scan.
There's so many options out there and they all can help a little, any relief is always gold. I also am seeing a vestibular physiotherapist and doing brain re training balance exercises that I feel is also helping at reducing the whoa heady moments that can happen. ENT next week and see if he's happy to continue with AV's a little longer
