Well I'm new to your site, found it today. Very informative, looks like many have had some significant progress, well done. I first went to an ENT about 3 years ago, he didn't think I had meniere which was fine with me as it looked like a tough road. Well I continued having the fullness and the vertigo got worse over the year, many here share the frustration. My sister-in-law also had been diagnosed about the same time, said her Dr. advised taking decongestants regularly to help clear the fog/fullness. I did this and had complications of reversible vasoconstriction, followed by thrombosis and finally a stroke. Out of the country at the time and my family were all called in.... Now all things considered, I'm actually doing fantastic now. I'm in business and haven't been there in 18 months, I really have no complaints except the persistent menieres, its quite tough to do executive functions I was put on Verapamil as a channel blocker med and I've essentially been vertigo free, but it is only masking the problem. My hearing was recently tested at 15% left ear and now my right seems to be following suit The neurologist advised me against any naturopathic medicines as I'm susceptible to another head trauma, complicates things a bit. So I'm off to see my Dr next Monday and based on having to stay away from naturopath remedies, can anyone point me in a direction they would go? I do need to pull his approval if it's prescription meds and if not I'd like his approval, don't want any brain issues I see the anti-fungal has been used with some positive results. Also the 10-20,000mg of vitamin C has been successful. Suggestions?
My first suggestion would be to clean up your diet, eliminate the big 3 sugar, dairy and gluten and stick to nutrient dense non processed foods, i would also eliminate caffeine for a month and see if you notice any improvements My second suggestion would be to take monulaurin long term, i would start this at the same time as the diet changes If the above 2 methods don't work, i would look into Antivirals or the JOH regime If none of the above made any difference and you had money i would look into regeneokine
I would push for anti-virals full protocol for at least 6 months immediately. The earlier started the more success.
If doing antivirals, which product and what dosage have others taken that has been effective for them? Also, any thoughts on anti-fungal and high dosage of vitamin C at the same time?
I agree with addressing diet first. It is the safest and often makes a big difference. Along with cutting out sugar, dairy, gluten and caffeine. You should cut out alcohol. I know all the fun stuff. Try it for at least 30 days. If u want u can try adding things back 1 at a time. Plus this goes along with any other treatment you are doing at the moment
Thanks for the reply's. Started on the diet change a few months ago, off sugars, gluten free & processed. Limited caffeine, alcohol & low sodium for the last few years. Meeting tomorrow with the Dr., will start antivirals asap Cheers
I am on valcyclovir (valtrex). Protocol is 1000mg 3x day for the first month, then 2x day for a month then 1x for maintenance. I had to stay at the full dose for 2 months before getting relief; some need about 6 months. That is a variable. Key is making sure that before you start to taper you are already feeling good relief. And knowing that you may need at least 6 months before feeling close to 100%. If you look at Vicki's post I believe she has the a/v protocol as one of her ongoing links.
Skip straight to the antivirals before you lose hearing that cannot recover. http://www.mm3admin.co.za/documents/docmanager/6e64f7e1-715e-4fd6-8315-424683839664/00056616.pdf https://fhs.mcmaster.ca/otolaryngology/documents/recoveryofhearinginMeniresusingantiviraltreatment.pdf
When on AV's how long without a vertigo event and on the full dose would you start to taper off. I am on full dose now for nearly 4 months and still average a full vertigo event every 2-3 weeks now. Is this a average event for MM, I expect I should continue for a min 6 months trial.
One thing to keep in mind, some folks get worse before they get better. Don't panic that. I would go about a week or two without vertigo before dropping. How many attacks did you have before antivirals? It's all relative. Also, what brand are you taking? There have been reports of some brands not working well.
I'm on generic Vaclovir, before it averaged 4 attacks and what felt like a attack was going to happen but I had a extra serc and that seemed to help
Appreciate the feedback again, heading to the ENT today, hope to get on the program asap. The info helps significantly
Brand is Alphafarm in Australia, they are part of the US, group Mylan. How is Mylans reputation for AV's
