1gm 3x for three weeks if good relief of vertigo
Then taper to 2x a day for three weeks
Then 1gm once a day for maintenance . I was given Valtrex.
Is it safe to have to take these meds for life?

That is the dosage I was on. I requested and received approval to stay at 3x day for an additional 4 weeks before tapering. It is always a good idea to have your blood levels (kidney/liver) testing annually at least to make sure there are not issues - however from my limited understanding a/v long term are an issue for those genetically predisposed to kidney or liver issues.

Yes, it is safe. It's frankly one of the safest drugs known to man. But as mentioned, check your liver and kidney functions yearly. In very rare cases, it may cause issues.
