Hi, Any updates on those who took/take Monolaurin? Did it help with vertigo and other symptoms? I read the entire thread and an very interested in trying this. Thanks
Those of you who are taking Lauricidin how much do you take? According to Amazon they are concentrated pellets (30 MG). That would mean 50 to get to the staring dosage Vickie got from the article. And 100 after that for the 3000mg maintainence dosage.
Thanks, Vicki for this and to Lulu for the thread where she explains her experience taking monolaurin. I ordered some lauricidin today. I am hoping it will help with chronic sinus issues as well as frequently recurring cold sores. Maggie
I will, Vicki. It shipped today so will likely get it Monday. I am really eager to try because we have been having so much dry breezy weather and my sinuses are killing me. Maggie
The monolaurin came today. I took 1/4 tsp with meals, 3x today. Insure hope it does something for this chronic post nasal drip and sinus issues. Maggie
Morning all. Just to update, I've had the antivirals sitting here for several weeks but haven't had the courage to try them! Ridiculous I know, but several potential side effects of them really scare me. I'm so sensitive to medications and have had several bad experiences which have left me with a real phobia of taking anything new. It's complete madness that I can spin and vomit for hours at a time yet find that somehow easier to handle than trying a new medication that may change my life! After reading this thread I thought I'd give the Monolaurin a go after researching it as it looks very promising! I like that it kills off the virus rather than just suppressing it, and that it's also an anti fungal. In my case I believe it's just as likely to be fungus based as it is viral. Today is the start of third day on the Lauricidin Monolaurin. I'm in the UK so ordered it from jgsupplements.com at a cost of £29.99 plus £5.99 postage for next day delivery. I am going very very slowly and carefully with it and only starting with one pellet a day. I've read of quite a few people that have felt its effects on just one to two pellets a day so I'm going to work up to a higher dose very slowly. Though the advice is to work up to 3 scoops a day, I am aiming for 2 though I suspect I may need far less than this - time will tell! There is also advice that states you should aim for only 2 scoops a day if you weigh under 125 pounds (I am 105) and 4 scoops a day if you weigh over 220 pounds. I knew nothing of Herxing (the die off effect) until reading and researching the info in this thread, and as unlikely as it may seem I believe I started experiencing this at the end of day 2 after only one pellet a day for 2 days! I would say if you're going to try it then treat this product with respect! I rarely get colds or coughs and haven't needed antibiotics for anything for over 8 years (touch wood!). Last night I started to feel decidedly "off". I had a headache (which I still have now), a dry tickly throat, stuffy nose, a slight temperature, felt very queasy and had what can only be described as fizzy teeth lol. I feel a bit better this morning but am about to take today's pellet so will see how it goes. Of course this could be coincidence, but if it is die off I'm experiencing then I imagine these symptoms will be back later. Still, it's nothing I can't handle and I'd rather have a slow die off over a long period than a quick hard fast one! Whilst researching the Monolaurin I came across several people that experienced die off with Lysine. Several months back when I started on JOH I had what I thought was a bad reaction to the Lysine. The first 2 days on it I only took a low dose to see if I reacted to it. After feeling fine I upped it to the full dose. After about a week on it I started to feel very lightheaded and kept having the sensation I was falling. I also felt ill and had a racing heart and numb/tingling fingers and toes. I stopped taking it and assumed it just didn't agree with me. I'm now wondering if this reaction was die off and that it was actually doing me good! Though the Lysine made me feel ill and lightheaded, at the same time I felt more with it and clearer headed and my family said I seemed different and more switched on. This is another reason why I'm taking the Monolaurin so slowly. If it does work for me then I don't want to have to stop taking it only a few weeks in! I have been taking it with a full glass of water half hour after my morning cup of tea. Then I have a slice of toast straight afterwards. An hour later I have been having the rest of my daily medication (Serc, water tablet and lemon bioflavonoid) with another slice of toast. On Monday (day 6) I am going to start taking one pellet twice a day. For about the last 8 months I have been having several mini spins a day (where everything starts spinning but stops within 10 seconds if I deep breathe), plus a couple a week where I spin for about an hour - fast enough to have to lie still, but not fast enough to make me vomit, and about one every 7-10 days where I spin for several hours and usually vomit. As far as I can remember, in the last 8 months I have not gone more than 2 weeks 6 days without a spin of some description. On day one of taking a pellet I had two mini spins and one 3 hour spin. On day two (yesterday) I had one very mini spin (stopped within 2 seconds of starting) Today is day three. I realise it is very early days, but if I can go more than 2 weeks, 6 days without a spin then there's a good chance this is working for me. I was diagnosed with Menieres about 18-19 years ago. The first 3 years I only had a few spins a year (each lasting about 3 hours) but felt completely fine in between. I then went 10 years with no spins at all! I then had about 5 years where (with the odd exception here and there) I only spun from September to January - not continuously lol, but at least every 3-4 days, sometimes mini spins, sometimes longer. Since last September the longest I have gone without spinning is 2 weeks 6 days. Thanks so much to all those who have contributed to this thread, and especially to you Vicki. You have continuously and tirelessly strived to help others rid themselves of this monster - and at a time when you are (thankfully) well yourself. I imagine most people's reaction under those circumstances would be to (understandably) distance themselves and get the hell out of here! I know myself that I often get heart sink after coming on here and the stress of that is often enough to make me spin, but at the same time it is also a place of great hope and education! Good luck to everyone else and I'll keep you updated.
Thanks so much for your kind words Keefer I hope the monolaurin does the trick for you..fingers crossed! I too am very medication sensitive and could not tolerate valacyclovir but so far for over 3 years acyclovir has not given me any issues. keep us posted please.
Well said, Keefer Social Muffin ( love that user name). Vicki is a godsend to this board. She has helped so many people and continues to do so. Yay, Vicki! M
I too am interested on those who have started monolaurin. I started mine 2 weeks ago today. I am already on the full JOH, acyclovir, (i started acyclovir middle of January) and now this. My main reason for doing so was that 5-6weeks ago my hearing reduced app 50%, and several members said this was common during allergy season and the pollen has been horrendous in Oklahoma. And spring and fall are my worse times, so i wanted to try something that i hoped would help with the hearing. i am now on 3/4 scoop 3 x's a day. Oh, and i also added about 3 weeks ago vitamin k2 and d-3 to my JOH regimen. So you can see i do a lot of swallowing!! But about 10 days ago my hearing started to improve. I have probably regained back 30% of my hearing which has helped me tremendously at work. I dont know what 1 thing did it but i am going to stay on everything for awhile. My vertigo is gone havent had it after about 3 weeks of acyclovir, still have occasional dizziness but i can take 1/2 of a xanax and control it. And i have had a lot of stress at the office, but have managed it these past 2 weeks. I have been really tired these past few weeks ...exhausted after work but last few days better and it could have been from stress but i am starting to feel better. I am so grateful for all the info on these threads as it least gives us a choice. I hope that others that start the monolaurin keep the rest of us updated, hopefully it will help some.
that's wonderful! nroper getting about 1/3 of your hearing back is great news! and no vertigo too! So happy for you
Thank you, Vicki, but if it wasnt for this forum and members like you and JOH constantly giving us info and always responding back I dont know what I would do. Thank you for all that you do.
It's now day 8 on the Monolaurin and no spins so far - apart from a very mini spin on day 2 which went after a few seconds I can feel the effects of it on the tiny dose I am taking so would say that some may need a starting dose far lower than that suggested. Two or three times I have felt myself 'filling up' as if I'm about to spin but nothing has happened! Hooray! Early days I know, but I am hoping in the first instance to go 3 weeks without a spin (which will be the first time in about the last seven and a half months). I took one pellet a day for the first 5 days then upped it to one twice a day from day 6. I have one pellet about 10am with a glass of water and a slice of toast, and the same again at about 9.30pm. Since upping it on day 6 I have had the same effects as I had on day 2 which lasted a couple of days - stuffy nose, tickly throat, fizzy teeth, slight temperature and mild headache. Brain fog is definitely a lot less, and I can walk more upright and feel more stable on my feet than usual. Tinnitus is constant (no change) and ear pressure/fullness is up and down throughout the day (no change). Good luck to everyone giving this (or anything else) a go. I'm cautiously optimistic about these tiny little magic beans
That is amazing, Keefer that you are finding results on such a small amount. That is really encouraging. I am on day 11 at 2 full scoops a day and I am certain that it is helping my chronic sinus isssues. We are just now heading into allergy season so it will test me for sure. I went for an early walk this am and did not fill up with the usual phlegm, so I am hopeful. Maggie
