I have a staple gun but that's probably not the type of gun you had in mind when you asked this question. :D

Yup. We have several 410 shotguns, several 22 long rifles, a double barrel shotgun (antique) a 22 short revolver, a 9mm semiauto pistol, and my 7 mag left handed stainless steel hunting rifle with a 9x13 lupold scope... I looked at a 38 yesterday.

We inherited all but one of them. We only have ammo for the 9mm and a couple of rounds for the 7mag. All but the 9mm are designed for hunting. The 22 revolver we take fishing for snakes. (a common practice where I live). The 38 I looked at is for my concealed weapons permit I plan on obtaining in a few months.

Different types for different purposes like Rogue explained (as is the case with many other things people have multiples of), and some have many primarily because they are collectors.

We aren't exactly collectors, but we have been left many guns. At one time I did hunt. That was my first gun. The second was a 22 revolver we took from my husbands grandfather who had it in the senior apartments where he used to live. It was against the rules, but most had one because of the neighborhood. We took it, with permission from my hubbys mom, because it was found while cleaning and he has dementia. There was also a 38 that he bought from a guy years and years ago who was in Bible college and needed the money. That was given back to his family and presented to him by his sons as a gift one Christmas. He was quite touched by the gift.

Anyhow, the rest of our "arsenal" came about when my hubby's mom remarried (his dad died) and we got a gun case his grandfather made from an old dresser (its beautiful) and all of his family's guns.

I want a .38 for self protection, and frankly I like to go to the range and shoot. Its expensive, but its quite a nice hobby and despite my balance issues Im still a very good shot. I haven't been hunting in years, but have been in the past, thought I never killed anything.

My uncle from Australia came to town once years and years ago and marveled over my hunting rifle. He was impressed by it and lamented he couldn't own one of his own. I think here in the US we take for granted that other countries don't allow most people to possess firearms.

All guns are designed for one purpose. To kill.

This gun kills from a distance, this gun's good at killing at close range. This gun can kill many with one clip while this gun requires reloading to kill more than six etc.

American gun culture is ugly. Just 11 days ago on Fathers day, Ignite Church began giving away AR-15 assault rifles to encourage the 18 - 35 year old male demographic "to follow Jesus".

Occurrences such as this exist only within cultures which, idiotically, pass guns around like candy.

True. Moreover, the consensus of the remaining first world countries shudder with aversion at America's gun culture, laws & regulations.
