I know that MM affects my cognition and memory but yesterday was especially bad. I was dizzy off and on all day, my balance was no good to the point that I almost got out the cane. I used furniture to navigate instead. I was having trouble forming cohesive thoughts, concentrating, memory, forgot what the topic of conversation was in the middle of a conversation, and quite confused. My question is that I had my second gent injection a little over a week ago. Could this be from the gent shot or do you guys think it is strictly the Meniere's acting up? I did some really dumb ass stuff yesterday and it was quite disconcerting. Any ideas?
I've never had a gent injection so I don't know. Did you have both ears done. It sounds like all Menieres symptoms and I don't know if the how long it takes to work and if these could be side effects of the gent. I know there are many here who've had gent shots or has information regarding your question...Vicki was good at that stuff but she's rarely here anymore. JOH told me about a supplement to help with cognition issues. I got it but I can't remember how to spell it, vincepotine (spellcheck, lol.) Someone will help, I know that.
I'm on the JOH regimen so I'm already taking the vinpocetine. When I get into complete remission will these cognitive issues and balance issues continue?
Mine didn't continue when I was in remission from the Antivirals. I don't know what after effects of the gent shot is.
My experience with gent shot - About 5 - 7 days after the gent shot I felt like crap. I felt like I was hung over, walked like a drunken sailor and was totally out of touch. It took a good 3 weeks before I started to feel human again. I was advised to walk as much as I could during this time. My husband was very good about walking with me. I could not have done it alone. The brain needs to "reboot". I am assuming you had the shot in one ear? The gent shot is slowly "killing" the signals to the vestibular nerve so you are going to be off balance until the other side of the brain recognizes this and takes over. All in all it will take about a month. Once I regained my balance I have to say I still felt like shit. I would not do another gent shot. I was constantly dizzy and although it stopped my drop attacks I continued with daily mini spins. My best advice to you to speed things up is to get out and walk, walk, walk. Walk on different terrain, hills, woods etc. And don't be driving the car during this time, dangerous to you and to others. Do you have hearing left in your ear? I hope you feel better soon.
Thank you, Redwing. The prospect of another three weeks like this sucks. I felt decent yesterday and I just got up today and so far my balance is not good. Yes, I had the gent shot in my right ear. My right ear has mainly severe low frequency loss as of the end of April at my last hearing test. I still have one good ear and can handle it just fine. You guys don't know how much I need to go back to work. Not that I want to go back, but financially it is tough. I haven't worked at all in about 6 weeks and before that I was calling in sick at least once a week if not the whole week. I only work three days a week so missing one day hurts. Anyway, I guess you could say I've pretty much been out of work since February. I'll start walking more and keep on taking the vinpocetine. Thanks for any feedback!
Thank you, Baloo. Great info there. I'm thinking that is what I'm experiencing. Little mini spins, off balance sometimes better than others, but overall acceptable. What I mean by acceptable is that the full nauseating rotational vertigo has not happened since the first injection. Still having symptoms other than that but I can live with that. The awful vertigo I can not live with. My only concern left now is with the cognition issue I've been having that seems to be pretty bad at times to the point of being downright scary. Friday will be the two week mark since my second injection. I had planned to go back to work Friday but will wait and see how I do in the next couple of days first.
