I have been taking valacyclovir for about 1 month and two weeks now.Besides it causing me to have a tired feeling it started causing me to have a little sensation in my back. I believe that's not something I should take lightly. I went to the doctor last week and requested the name brand Valtrex, my insurance won't cover it . My doctor is supposed to submit that it is medically necessary and that I'm getting side effects. I hope that helps but, I will stop taking the valacyclovir because I'm scared it may be harming my kidneys and that's why my lower back is having these sensations. I noticed a little difference with my balance and a slight difference with vertigo but the side effects aren't minor . My life is a living hell .

Antivirals whether generic or brand, are not for people who have any kidney issues. Talk to your doctor about your concerns asap.

It's easy to check with a blood test. Good luck.

I never had any kidney issues. I'm worried the lower sensation in my back is an indication it is causing a problem with them. I'm going to make an appointment with my pdoc.

You are correct about being concerned. My Creatine was on the higher side before. I am having a blood test soon as well.

It is possible that you are having issues with the a/v my understanding is that if one already has or is predisposed to kidney issues the anti virals could make those worse. Believe it is always wise to have full baseline bloodwork done which will help to know what for sure is going on. It is possible that your kidney was already on the cusp of an issue. Also possible that you moved or slept wrong, or are getting a kidney infection. Lots of things potential.

It is extremely rare for antivirals to affect your kidneys. Much more likely to be something else.

Alternatively, you could think about consulting a trained medical professional. If you are lucky they might take some blood tests and reach a considered opinion!
