moodymom, what everyone is telling you is spot on - walk, walk, walk. Had a shunt put in with gent injection about 9 weeks ago on the right side, and I'm still fighting the balance issue along with you. Still have the crazy tiredness, but the balance seems to be getting better each week. And yes- sometimes we look like drunks when we walk - last weekend I was asked why I was drunk at 9 am - I just smiled and said that mine was free and the hangover wasn't as bad as his would be. We'll both get better
Thank you everyone for the responses. My walking routine starts tonight. My son said he'd walk with me every day. I had a couple of appointments today with people I haven't met before. Stumbled down the hall and tripped coming into the meeting room to sit down. I quickly said I promise I'm not drunk. My husband piped up and briefly explained why. Does anyone else find that they seem to walk a little strange when their balance is off? I feel like I walk with my feet spread farther apart so my gait is strange? Or is it only me, which wouldn't surprise me, LOL.
Oh yes, gives you a wider base. We walk like toddlers who are just learning to walk because we are learning to walk all over again as well. Get a cane or walking stick so you can walk with confidence. It will speed up your recovery. Sometimes just having it to touch the ground with makes a lot of differnce.
Shew, glad it's not just me. LOL I've got a cane sitting in the corner of the kitchen that hasn't been touched. I just stumble my way around. I suppose I should at least start taking it with me when I am out and about. Save me from embarrassment of looking like I'm drunk in public.
