Has anyone had good results from acyclovir ? What manufacturer was it ? I didn't have have luck with valacyclovir the manufacturer was Ran Baxy. Then I had my nuero put in for the brand name Valtrex and it wasn't approved by my insurance company. When I asked for the acyclovir at first he said that was too high a dose. I had a three day supply and already noticed it gave me a tight head and vertigo. I'm sensitive I guess to it. I hope my Ent lets me try it but knowing my luck , they want. They prescribed the water pills that didn't do anything for me. I wish doctors were more open minded .
I did when I took 2400 mg a day. Now I am on 1600mg not as good. I have to wait on a blood test on my kidneys.
AEC, for a while I was ordering the generic valtrex (northstar) and paying cash. My cash price for a month supply was just over $50. Not sure what the cash price for the brand though. Might be an option. The acyclovir has a different dosage regimen i believe so not sure what the dr thought was too high? Did you provide him with the different dosage for acyclovir?
Thank you for the advice. I'm trying to get the Valtrex from Northstar since the brand name wasn't approved. I asked my doctor to put in a script at my Costco because they have Northstar manufacturer . I hope it goes through.
What makes you say you didnt have any luck? How long did you take it? What were your results? In my experience, it is not an on/off switch. In fact, some people have worse or different symptoms at first for a short time. I had worse hearing when i first took it. It took several minths for me to get the max benefit. There is a lot that must heal just like when you have moni, you dont jump up full of energy right away.
I was on it for a month and and a half . It gave me a very tired feeling and pains in my lower back. Also one of the side effects it can cause is depression and I think it was making me feel that way. Now from being off it I don't feel that anymore.
I wonder if antivirals in general would not be a good thing for you. Like doctors, we have to 'first do no harm' to ourslves. One thing seems clear reading here over the years is that this disorder is caused by several different things though the end result may look the same. Good luck with finding what works for you.
Did you print out and show him the paperwork? Believe acyclovir is 800mg 3x day for the first 3 weeks, then 2x day for 3 weeks and then down to 1x day.
You will need to confirm that your Costco will order it in for you if they dont carry it. If so, it typically takes an additional 2 days for them to get it in. Target used to (by me, as of 2 years ago) fill automatically with Northstar.
I am still waiting on my lab work. The lab didn't do the right test. I know I felt better on 2400 mg.
