The right side is worse than the left. It's in the canal outside the ear drum. I can relieve it temporarily with a q-tip, but don't like to do that. I tried alcohol and white vinegar, but only stopped it for a day.

There are no other symptoms like dizziness. Just the itch.

Any thoughts on what it might be? No pain, but if it continues, i'll go to the doc, i guess.

I have the same problem with my bad ear on the right. Have no clue what or why.

I've never had any allergies in my life.

What makes you think that? Allergies are not necessarily manifest as sneezing, itchy eyes etc.

I have no hay fever but am severly allergic to wasp stings. Allergy tests revealed that i am sensitive to many things in the environment and allergy shots helped my hearing a lot. The reason i said allergy with re your itchy ears is that is one of the hallmark of my allergic reaction to certain allergy shots.

I had allergy shots as a child and again about six years ago for about 3 years. Didn't help at all. Stop wasting my time. My allergies are more hay fever type, itchy nose, eyes, etc. But never had the itchy ears, especially in just one ear that happens to be my MM ear.

I've tested for allergies before. Nothing. I suppose it's possible, but unlikely to suddenly show up in my ear at this age.

I have had itchy ears (both good and bad ear) for years. It drives me crazy because it's so hard to relieve the itch! I do notice it usually happens more for me in spring and fall when I'm bothered by sinus/allergy issues. I've asked a doctor about it before and he said it was probably allergies. I don't test for anything when allergy tested, but have always suffered seasonal allergies and have had sinus problems in fall and spring.

I second that, it might be fungal/candida which for some is the cause of their meniere's in the first place.

  12. It could be an allergy. I never really notice the itching til after showering. Those Q-tips felt great! I take a pill a day and the ears no longer itch.

    Hope you figure it out.

Well, I took double dose of valtrex for a week and the itch disappeared. Not sure if it's connected, or how, but it's nice to have relief from it.

  14. That's great. Hope it stays gone for you.

I've had itchy ears for a couple decades, and have tried just
about every anti-itch med, including several prescribed by my
    ENT and regular medical provider.

Turns out I have eczema inside my ears, and it goes right up
    to the ear drum.

    What NOT to use:

Dry Q Tips...the cotton is scratchy, and can cause abrasions
in the ear canal, especially when you're scratching with it. This
    leads to infections.

Alcohol...all it does is seriously dry out the skin.

What I have found the best success with is dipping a q-tip
in Cetaphil cream, and swabbing the outer ear canal. This keeps
the skin moist, as dry skin is the worst cause of itchiness. Doing
this morning and night I rarely have itching issues, and when it
gets unbearable I use my eczema cream, sparingly.

I've had the itchiness ears for two days now. It was driving me insane.

I remembered someone having the same problem and looked for this thread.
I'm so glad I found it.
Thank-you for the solution to yet another "ear" problem.
