Hello All! I had a different user name as I couldn't recall what one I had when I re-registered. It was Hollykins2. It's been quite awhile since I had been on. I had unilateral Meniere's in the left ear and eventually had a VNS. It stopped the drop attacks, but I never quite regained full balance again. Used a rollator at first, and then went to a cane. I was getting a bit better and able to just carry it at times and not depend on it. Fast forward to a few months ago. Started having "episodes" again. Now it's a LOT of episodes. I say episodes as after the VNS I've never had full rotational vertigo again, even the few times BPPV hit me. It's more a side to side thing. It feels like a bouncy house inside of my head. Now I'm totally off-balance and back to the rollator. Had a very bad fall about ten days ago. Kind of concerned I'm going bi-lateral. Can't go to the doctor until July because of insurance issues. Which in a way is a good thing as my insurance company went bankrupt. (PUP) While cheap, very limited on doctors that one could go to. Every time I went to my PCP, I had to explain to him each and every time what Meniere's is.... Good news is that I can get BC/BS and can go back to my nuerOTOlogist! He got me through so much and the fact that I can go back to him is helping me feel like there's hope. Also, I can go to a decent PCP, and her physician's assistant had been treating me before and during the Meniere's bad times. This forum was so helpful to me. I'm not sure I'd have survived with my sanity without it!
Good luck to you and your battle against this debilitating disease. I can't seem to figure out the triggers that may allow it to resurface. Always hopeful but becoming more discouraged.
I know for me stress is a trigger. Life doesn't always allow us to reduce it around us. I'm doing the usual - low sodium, caffeine, etc. It is discouraging but that's why a forum like this can be so helpful. There are others who understand what we are going through.
